Chelsea news: Antonio Conte situation strange, players mirroring his discontent - Wright

IAN WRIGHT still finds it “strange” that Antonio Conte wasn’t offered a contract extension by Chelsea over the summer and he believes the players are reflecting the manager’s attitude at present.

Antonio Conte insists he's happy at Chelsea amid exit rumours

Chelsea suffered a bad night in the Champions League last night as they lost 3-0 away to Roma.

Conte, who was vocal in his criticism of the club’s activity in the last transfer window, has at times appeared to strike an unhappy figure.

The 48-year-old admitted last month he is missing Italy and would be open to a return to his homeland.

In the Premier League, the Blues find themselves nine points adrift of the leaders Manchester City and they face a pivotal game next at home to Manchester United on Sunday (4.30pm).

And Wright can’t understand why the Blues didn’t give Conte a contract extension.

“When he signed a contract and they gave him more money but no extension; when you have won the Premier League I found that very strange,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate Show

“That you wouldn't want to keep a manager like that or a manager like that wouldn't want to stay and want more years to get it right."

Ian Wright thinks there is discontent at Chelsea

Discussing the Blues’ problems on the pitch, Wright added: “I think there is something going on.

"It was a bad performance. The players seem to be mirroring the attitude of the manager in his press conferences, rather than the guy that when they score you see the energy burst out of him.

“It seems like there has been rumblings of discontent from the start of the season and it seems to be carrying on now. He just doesn't seem happy there.”
