Pochettino: I have full respect for Roy Hodgson

Tottenham 1-0 Crystal Palace LIVE: Express Sport brought you the latest team news, updates and analysis from Wembley

That's it from us today. Thanks for following!

REACTION

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "It was a tough game for us after Wednesday. Palace were compact, narrow and playing on the counter attack. We had the possession but not many chances. They were fresh after one week to prepare for the game. We had a few problems after the Madrid game and that's why I'm so happy with the victory. In the end though I'm very pleased with an important three points.

"I'm so happy for the different players who came in, people like Paolo (Gazzaniga) who played fantastically well. He is an unbelievable option to have as a keeper and I'm really happy for him and his family that he performed like that.

"It was always going to be a challenge today but it means a lot to pick up the three points. It's a massive achievement for us to take us into the international break."

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "Spurs' goal was a painful blow. We knew they'd dominate possession with the quality they have but we worked hard to restrict them and they didn't have many shots to worry us. We had quite a few moments of our own at the other end so it was a bitter blow to lose 1-0.

"We caused them a good deal of problems: Wilf's chance and others we could have scored. When you don't take your chances, you run the risk of them scoring at the other end and that's what happened.

"I'm pleased with how we went about our business. I can't ask much more of what the players are giving for us. They're not lacking belief but when you're playing Tottenham away, you need a bit of luck and we didn't get it."

Spurs match winner Son Heung-min: "I think we deserved to win the game.

"It's great to get the three points ahead of the international break and we'll enjoy watching the rest of the football this afternoon."

Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzanigga: "I knew last night that Michel (Vorm) was not too well so I started preparing then.

"I was nervous for about three seconds and then the players gave me lots of support.

"I'll take it step-by-step in trying to become Number 1 for Spurs."

TOTTENHAM 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

FT: It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t stylish, and it wasn’t a very good watch - but Tottenham have won again thanks to a second-half strike from Son.

Sorry to leave so quickly but I’ve got to cover the Manchester City vs Arsenal match from the Etihad and I’m very late indeed.

If you’d like to join me, you can just click this lovely link .

92: It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for Crystal Palace, but they should be very proud of their performance. Terrific display. Ben Davies replaces Danny Rose for the final seconds.

THREE MINUTES ADDED TIME

90: That was the moment. Andros Townsend wriggles his way to the byline and drills a cross across the six-yard box but somehow Vertonghen claws it away.

89: Sanchez muscles his way into the Crystal Palace area but heads an Eriksen corner into the ground and over.

88: Wilfried Zaha’s guilty of trying to do too much. He’s driving forward at every opportunity but isn’t bringing any of his colleagues into play.

86: Crystal Palace throwing caution to the wind now with three staying forward. Spurs aren’t taking any unnecessary ricks though.

83: Crystal Palace netted a 97th-minute equaliser against West Ham last weekend - so they’ve got plenty of time, right?

81: Dann's looping header from Zaha’s corner drops wide as the game really opens up.

Vertonghen releases Son, who’s one-on-one with Speroni but having given the goalkeeper the eyes - drags it wide.

78: Couple of changes. Fernando Llorente’s on for Harry Kane, while Baky Sako replaces Joel Ward.

75: Great desire from Zaha, who tracks back 40-yards to dispossess Son. It’s things like that which can galvanise a side, and it’s certainly done the trick for Crystal Palace. They’re fired up.

73: Wilfried Zaha goes through again, but it’s another disappointing final product. He beats Aurier but tamely shoots wide with a couple of team-mates in space.

70: Son becomes the highest-scoring South Korean in Premie League history! He would have added to that tally if Harry Kane had squared it there.

67: The Eagles look shaken by that opener. They are going to have to commit a few more forward in search of an equaliser because Spurs can afford to sit back now.

TOTTENHAM 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE - SON

64: Son to the rescue! A huge sigh of relief around Wembley as Spurs finally make the breakthrough.

Crystal Palace fail to clear a Serge Aurier cross. Son Heung-min picks up a loose ball on the edge of the box and finishes into the corner.

Roy Hodgson will be ring that Zaha miss.

63: Spurs have woken up slightly and have a chance of their own with Rose’s cross just alluding the onrushing Kane.

60: Wembley sounding very worried indeed. Crystal Palace have the belief they can win, and very nearly take the lead again!

A corner finds its way to Milivojevic at the back post, but Gazzaniga is there to prevent a certain goal. Good spell for the visitors.

59: Chance! Wilfried Zaha simply HAS to score. Townsend releases Zaha, he skips round Gazzaniga, but moving away from goal and drags it wide. 9/10 he scores that.

57: Schlupp booked for a rugby tackle on Aurier. Christian Eriksen sends an outswinger into the box but Ward clears.

54: Spurs continue to dominate possession but every sustained attack is swiftly followed by a Palace break and free-kick to relieve pressure. Sakho gives Aurier the slip at the back post but the full-back recovers quickly.

51: Gazzaniga has had more saves to make than Speroni today. That will be a slight concern for Mauricio Pochettino, who doesn’t have tons of options on the bench.

48: Close! Serge Aurier’s sloppy pass goes straight to Andros Townsend, who drives forward before seeing his low effort tipped wide by Gazzaniga. The following corner is blazed over by Zaha.

TOTTENHAM 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

45: We’re back underway folks. Mousa Dembele has replaced Harry Winks, who I think will be a doubt for England’s upcoming friendlies now.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Paul: Well that has to be the most mediocre half of football I think I’ve ever watched from us... GET AT IT FFS!!

Burton: Moussa Sissoko there, consistently looking like a man that never been passed a football before.

David: You just know Crystal Palace have had the most boring week of training ever on defensive shape. Boring game of football this.

TOTTENHAM 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

HT: Value for money? Not even close. Kevin Friend blows his whistle after a very forgettable 45-minutes of Premier League football.

46: Booking for Andros Townsend, who tugs Sissoko’s shirt. Spurs have a free-kick seconds before the break. What can they do with this?

Christian Eriksen to deliver… Nope. Cleared.

TWO MINUTES ADDED TIME

44: This was always going to be a tough ask after the elation of Wednesday night. Major comedown. I wonder if a more difficult fixture would have been better for the North London side. Manchester City or Chelsea perhaps?

Anyway, Harry Winks lets fly but he’s scuffed it wide. Well wide.

42: So where’s this breakthrough coming from? Well Danny Rose has been Tottenham’s most threatening player down the right flank, but he needs more support from Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane and Son, who’ve all been pretty quiet.

38: Save! What a moment that could prove to be. Scott Dann makes a nuisance of himself and wins the header from a corner. It’s heading for the bottom corner until Gazzaniga makes a low save to deny the centre-back.

36: You sense Spurs will conjure that quick pass-and-move moment to unlock Crystal Palace, but it doesn’t look like happening anytime soon. Everything’s very subdued.

Commentators curse. Dany Rose’s deflected cross loops up for Harry Kane, but his header goes over the bar.

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace LIVE: Latest team news, updates and analysis from WembleyREUTERS

34: Full-back-to-full-back. Serge Aurier loops a deep cross to the back post, where Danny Rose is waiting to nod wide.

33: Spurs have enjoyed 70% possession but they’ve not really tested 38-year-old Julian Speroni. I suppose that’s mainly thanks to Scott Dann and co, who’ve been alert to everything.

30: I forgot to mention that Harry Winks has recovered from that knock. He’s just sent a wayward pass forward that Son didn’t have a chance of reaching.

27: Harry is back on the field. BT Sport have seen fit to re-introduce player-cam from 1999. What an awful feature that was. Ayway, he’s moving gingerly, but I think he’s going to be alright.

24: Uh-oh. Harry Kane’s the next man to hit the deck after a poor challenge from Fosu-Mensah. This looks really bad for the England international. Fingers crossed it’s just an impact injury.

21: Quite a lengthy pause, and a few worried faces as Harry Winks goes down injured. He hobbles off. Not sure he’s going to run this off.

18: Zaha has his first chance to stretch his legs but Dier and Aurier are quickly over to double-up on the winger.

Minutes later Dier makes another vital to stop with Zaha preparing to pull the trigger. The resulting corner is cleared. The Eagles look a threat on the break.

15: Looks like Mamadou Sakho is in one of those moods today. He’s like a magnet blocking everything within a 5-meter radius.

Danny Rose drills a cross into the area but the centre-back clears with Harry Kane lurking.

12: Harry Kane has a sighter from distance but the veteran Speroni comfortably gathers. Not wanting to sound too cliched, but I think Spurs are suffering from the deadly European hangover.

9: Danny Rose looks fighting fit, and clearly hasn’t lost any pace or sharpness. Tottenham turning the screw as the Eagles hunker down.

6: Low-key beginning from Spurs, who are easing themselves into this one. Plenty of passing around the midfield, but zero tempo.

3: Useful start from the visitors. Wilfried Zaha, who we knew would be influential today, sends a delightful cross into the area but Sakho couldn’t quite reach it.

Having seen it again, Gazzaniga didn’t get near the ball and caught the defender around the head. Not a convincing start from the debutant GK, and might have been a penalty.

TOTTENHAM 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

1: After a perfectly-observed minutes silence to remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflict, we’re underway.

TWO-MINUTE WARNING

11:58: The players have emerged from the tunnel to an unusually quiet Wembley. Few sore heads from last night I suspect…

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Simon: Who the f*** is Paulo Gazzaniga?!

William: Michel Vorm may as well hand in his resignation. Utterly useless when called upon.

Harry: Let’s hope we don’t have to use our bench today. Dembele good to close the game out and decent full-back cover, but there’s no game-changer.

HOPE?

11:53: Spurs have lost both of their London derbies at Wembley this season, as many as they'd lost in their 16 at White Hart Lane under Mauricio Pochettino.

Feels like I’m scratching around for some optimism for Crystal Palace supporters, but I genuinely think it will be a tight game.

WHAT’S ON

11:40: Today’s just an insane day for football lovers.

Obviously we’re starting nice and early, but there’s plenty of heavyweight clashes to come.

Manchester City welcome arsenal to the Etihad looking to extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League.

After that, there’s the small matter of Jose Mourinho returning to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea and Manchester United go head-to-head.

Oh, Everton are playing Watford… guaranteed to be last on MOTD2 tonight I should imagine.

David: Lloris, Alderweireld, Wanyama, Lamela, Alli would make a great injured 5-a-side team. Nervous about today!

Graham: Feeling confident after seeing Spurs starting 11 but I know it’s going to be a tough game. Come on Palace!

Dan: I was cautious about today when I woke up now I'm absolutely petrified seeing the team... COYS!

ALLI OUT OF ACTION

11:30: Despite Mauricio Pochettino saying that Dele Alli’s hamstring injury was minor, he’s been ruled out of the England squad for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

The FA tweeted: “Squad update: the Three Lions will be without Dele Alli for this month’s games. Get well soon, Dele!”

ROY FANCIES HIS CHANCES

11:25: The odds might be stacked against them, but doesn’t seem to have dampened Roy Hodgson’s spirits.

The Eagles manager is adamant his side can do the business against Spurs this afternoon, despite having the division's worst defensive record.

“My players won't go onto that field thinking they are too good for us to play against. We will go thinking we are going to beat these,” Hodgson said.

"If players allow themselves to listen to all the noise on social media and from TV pundits they will be affected. But the bottom line is that when we cross that line there is nothing to stop our players doing all the things they're capable of."

TOTTENHAM vs CRYSTAL PALACE

*The two teams have met 16 times in the Premier League with Tottenham dominating the fixture with eight wins.

*Roy Hodgson's Palace have failed to score and have conceded 12 times on their travels this season.

*Crystal Palace's only Premier League win at Spurs came in 1997 thanks to a Neil Shipperley winner.

*Apart from scoring eight goals, league top-scorer Harry Kane has also hit the woodwork five times this season.

*Mauricio Pochettino's third-placed Tottenham are 16 points ahead of basement side Palace.

TEAM NEWS - TOTTENHAM

11:05: Mauricio Pochettino has made five changes from the side who conquered Real Madrid.

And he’s completely ruined my Fantasy Football team in the process.

Captain Hugo Lloris is sidelined with a knee injury with former Southampton keeper Paulo Gazzaniga making his full debut.

Dele Alli is reported to have sustained a hamstring injury on Wednesday, and has not been included in the matchday squad.

Elsewhere Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Son are included in the starting XI with Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies and Mousa Dembele dropping to the bench.

BAD MORNING

10:55: How’s everyone doing today? I got to the train station bright and early only to read the worst three words in the English language.

Replacement. Bus. Service.

It turned a 40-minute journey into a two-hour slog in what can only be described as a fridge with wheels.

Top work Southeastern, top f****** work.

GOOD MORNING

10:50: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Tottenham vs Crystal Palace from Wembley.

Crystal Palace are not Real Madrid.

Possibly not the boldest statement I’ve ever made, but despite their midweek heroics against Real Madrid - Mauricio Pochettino’s side need to keep their eye on the ball.

So I guess you could say that It’s back to the day job for Spurs this afternoon.

For Palace, it's a return to the scene of Alan Pardew's dad dance at the 2016 FA Cup final.

Fingers crossed Roy Hodgson has been practicing…

TOTTENHAM vs CRYSTAL PALACE - PREVIEW
