'He's progressing well' Conte gives N'Golo Kante injury update

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United: Express Sport brought you the latest score, news, updates and analysis from Stamford Bridge

NIGHT!

19:20: Thanks for joining me today folks. I’m afraid to say we’ll now be plunged into the dreaded international break for a couple of weeks. I’m going to hibernate deep underground until it's over. See you soon!

19:18: Asked about the lack of a handshake with Jose Mourinho, Conte said: “It’s not important. It’s important to win the game. You have to have the respect on the pitch not outside the pitch.”

19:15: The Blues boss gives a very interesting answer when asked about the future of David Luiz.

Asked if David Luiz has a future at Chelsea: “I don’t know. He has to work really hard otherwise they are on the bench or in the stand.”

19:10: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: “It’s an important victory. When you play against Manchester United it’s always a massive game. We know very well this team is very strong. This type of win is important for our confidence. We showed great desire and passion to win this kind of game."

“We can win or lose but our spirit must be this. Last season our spirit was in every game – we started this season with a lot of problems. We were up and down. This game showed if we want we can."

19:05: Antonio Conte has just about gathered his breath after wildly celebrating for the past 15 minutes. He’s delighted with the passion the players showed. Full quotes coming up.

19:00: So how’s that left the Premier League table looking? Well, it’s great news for Manchester City, who boast an eight-point lead over Tottenham and Manchester United. Chelsea are a further point behind them, with Liverpool and Arsenal back in fifth and sixth respectively.

18:56: Drama! Jose Mourinho said that he waited to shake Antonio Conte’s hand but the Italian disappeared, so he shook the assistant manager’s hand instead. I’m sure we’ll here Conte’s side of the story soon.

18:55: More reaction from Jose Mourinho: “We are second - not fifth, sixth or seventh or eight. We have several teams in a more difficult position than we have. Eight points is eight points. We went through a very difficult phase with important matches against Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea without important players.

“The game was controlled by us and the game was controlled by them. We had chances and they had chances and with the first goal they were able to bring more people to defend. We tried to change the direction of our game, we created chances to equalise but we couldn't.

"We had chances. If I remember Lukaku shot in the first half and in the last part of the game with Rashford shot and Courtois without a chance with the cross to the far post to Fellaini. We had lots of chances to score goals."

18:50: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: "It was an even match. Both teams could win. The first to score would be in more defensive control and to win the match. The first half was really even. In the second half in the only period where they were on top of the game, they scored.

"It frustrates us to concede a goal in this situation. We lost ourselves after the goal emotionally. We found again the balance ad desire in the last 15 to 20 minutes. It was all us. We had big chances to equalise but we couldn't."

18:45: Not the most disappointed I’ve seen Jose Mourinho after a defeat. He says Manchester United are still in a great position, and are in a better position than 18 other teams in the league. Full quotes coming shortly.

18:40: Chelsea goalscorer Alvaro Morata: “It is important that we won. We had a very good chance today to come back to winning ways. We are happy now with the international break we can go with three points.”

18:35: Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas: “We had plenty of chances, especially in the first half but we could have killed it off in the second half. It was maybe a little bit more open than expected.

"We prepared for the game in a way we know how they like to defend. We had more possession than usual which is something for me we have been lacking but we had the personality to play. It is fantastic to defend well but this is a team full of fantastic players and we need to take advantage of that.

"We played like a big team, defended like a big team and we have to be proud."

18:30: Cesc Fabregas was given the Man of the Match award. He’s speaking with Sky Sports now, and is obviously delighted with the win. Full quotes to come.

EVERTON 3-2 WATFORD - CLEVERLEY MISSED PENALTY

FT: The match on Merseyside is getting ridiculous now. Tom Cleverley misses a penalty in the 99th minute against his former club. That's full-time now folks.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Alex: I guess that ends the Romelu Lukaku vs Alvaro Morata debate. One scores the winner and the other goes missing!

Kieran: Better team over the 90-minutes won. We weren't anywhere near good enough, nothing going forward. Great header by Morata.

Uche: Huge win for Chelsea. Conte got the response he wanted from his players. Christensen in particular. He must keep his place in the team.

CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

FT: Chelsea have bounced back from their dismal display in Rome to beat Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte goes crazy on the sidelines and hugs everyone in sight!

95: Danger! Marcus Rashford with a free-kick in perfect range… over! He struck that beautifully but it took a nick off the wall and went over for a corner.

EVERTON 3-2 WATFORD - BAINES (PEN)

90: David Unsworth’s Everton have completely turned around a two-goal deficit to lead in injury-time. Baines converts from the penalty spot following a Holebas foul on Lennon.

94: Alvaro Morata has the perfect chance to put the cherry on the cake after going through one-on-one with David de Gea, but he trips over the ball!

92: Manchester United continue to throw the kitchen sink at Chelsea in these final seconds but nothing’s getting through.

FOUR ADDED MINUTES

90: Huge save from Courtois! The Belgian saves from his compatriot after Fellaini chested a cross down and smashed it from point-blank range.

89: Time ticking away for Jose Mourinho’s side. As things stand, Manchester United will be eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City going in to the international break.

87: Eden Hazard makes way for Willian.

86: Everyone inside Stamford Bridge was expecting the net to ripple. The ball drops to Rashford, and the England star is a whisker away from scoring with a scorching half-volley. Just wide.

84: A few nervy moments for Chelsea as Fellaini narrowly misses a Rashford cross at the back post. United going direct in the final stages.

82: Gary Cahill channels his inner Lionel Messi with a piece of skill outside the Manchester United penalty area, before striking straight at David de Gea.

Ander Herrera is lucky to avoid a second bookable offence after hacking Eden Hazard down. Referee Anthony Taylor’s been kind there.

80: Saved by the swerve. Rudiger whips a cross over that isn't far away from catching De Gea out at the back post. The Spaniard looks relieved to see it swerve away from danger.

78: Final change for Jose Mourinho as Jesse Lingard comes on for Ashley Young. Antonio Conte also makes a change as Danny Drinkwater replaces Cesc Fabregas, who goes off shaking his head. Not a happy camper.

EVERTON 2-2 WATFORD - CALVERT-LEWIN

74: Unbelievable scenes at Goodison Park. It’s now all-square as Calvert-Lewin nods in a Baines corner.

77: And another chance goes begging. Eden Hazard drives forward and fizzes one at DDG. The Belgian had the unmarked Morata to his right but completely ignored him.

75: Should be game, set and match Chelsea, but Bakayoko can’t hit a barn door. The midfielder pinched it off Fellaini before dragging wide.

73: Fellaini finds himself booked for catching Morata with a flailing arm. Not sure it was worth a yellow myself.

EVERTON 1-2 WATFORD - NIASSE

67: It’s all happening at Goodison Park now. Niasse beats sub goalkeeper Karnezis to the ball and bundles it into the net. I believe that’s the same description for EVERY Niasse goal.

70: Manchester United’s Plan B almost pays dividends. Fellaini chests it down to Rashford, whose shot is deflected away for a corner. Chelsea clear the initial corner and Ander Herrera’s snapshot is sent wide.

EVERTON 0-2 WATFORD - KABASELE

64: Kabasele jumps highest and powers home a Watford corner to double their lead.

67: These changes haven’t had the deserved effect yet. It’s Chelsea who continue to dominate with Morata twisting and turning before firing wide. Rudiger on for Zappacosta.

64: So Manchester United revert to a back four. Martial’s moved over to the left, Rashford on the right and the trio in midfield to regain control. It looks like Herera is now man-marking Eden Hazard, just like he did last season.

60: Here comes Marouane Fellaini! Manchester United prepare to go aerial with the towering Belgian enter the fray with Henrikh Mkhitaryan trotting off. Anthony Martial’s also on for Phil Jones.

57: Cesar Azpilicueta has provided 5 assists for Alvaro Morata in the Premier League this term; the most by one player for a teammate.

55: No player has scored more headed goals in the big five European leagues since the start of last season than Alvaro Morata.

CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED - MORATA

53: The warning signs have been there for Manchester United, and Chelsea finally land the killer blow.

The ball is worked over to Azpilicueta on the right. He drives forward and releases the perfect cross for Alvaro Morata, who powers his header past the motionless David de Gea.

Advantage Conte.

52: Chance! You just can’t keep Eden Hazard quiet for a second. The Belgian ghosts into the area and slams a half-volley straight at DDG from Fabregas’ cross.

51: Quite a spectacular passage from Eden Hazard, who draws three fouls and manages to get Herrera and Jones booked.

50: Jones brings down Hazard and gets a booking for his troubles. The Belgian then draws another from Matic and Chelsea have a free-kick just outside the Manchester United penalty area.

Waste. Fabregas’s free-kick fails to beat the first man.

EVERTON 0-1 WATFORD - RICHARLISON

45: 30 seconds after the restart Everton are losing. Gray chips to Richarlison, who finds the bottom corner after rounding Pickford. It’s been coming.

48: Gary Neville agrees that Mkhitaryan should be replaced. He thinks Mourinho will opt for Fellaini over Martial or Lingard.

CHELSEA 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

45: We’re back underway. Some minor mind-games from Manchester United, who delay coming out of the tunnel for a couple of minutes. No changes.

EVERTON 0-0 WATFORD

HT: It’s the same scoreline over at Goodison Park with Watford absolutely dominating Everton. David Unsworth’s side have shown more commitment, but the quality is still lacking.

DISALLOWED GOAL

HT: I’m just watching the replay of Phil Jones’ disallowed own goal in the opening 20 minutes.

There was no doubt in the referee's mind, and I agree. Alvaro Morata clipped his heels and pushed him sightly in the build-up.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Joey: What has happened to Henrikh Mkhitaryan? Shadow of player he was at start of season take him off and bring on Martial second-half.

Eni: This is the Chelsea I used to know… Good performance, and I think we’ll win as Manchester United begin to tire.

Basic: Decent half but it doesn’t sit well with me that we are a one man show, Kante is back & suddenly we play like Chelsea again!

Chelsea vs Manchester United LIVE: Latest score, news, updates and analysis from Stamford BridgeREUTERS

CHELSEA 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: Well many predicted this scoreline at the break, but I don’t think many expected it to be this open and exciting. As far as nil-nils go, it’s very good indeed.

43: It doesn’t look like we’re going to see the breakthrough before HT folks. Chelsea are in the ascendancy, but they’re still lacking that killer ball.

40: Corner to Chelsea. The decibels levels go up a notch as Fabregas delivers… and they almost explode when Christensen thumps it over. The centre-back easily beats Herrera in the air but can’t keep it down.

38: Zappacosta does a couple of stepovers before drilling a shot low to David de Gea’s left. Saved. Tempo dropping here after a frantic start.

36: Impressive speed from Cesar Azpilicueta to keep pace with Marcus Rashford, who ain’t no slouch.

Alvaro Morata hit the deck like a salmon after Chris Smalling touches his shoulder. Referee Anthony Taylor isn’t interested.

33: In the separate battle being played out on the sidelines, I’d say that Antonio Conte is winning the ‘most angry gestures’ award. You can tell he really wants this one. Mourinho is sitting rather quietly stroking his chin like an evil genius.

30: A lofted ball from Cesc Fabregas causes worry in the Manchester United backline but it just evades Morata who was under pressure from Bailly.

Chelsea vs Manchester United LIVE: Latest score, news, updates and analysis from Stamford BridgeREUTERS

Chelsea vs Manchester United LIVE: Latest score, news, updates and analysis from Stamford Bridge

28: Chelsea looking the more threatening at the half-hour mark approaches. Hazard’s had some neat touches, Morata is finding the space and Bakayoko is making a real nuisance of himself.

25: The game is simmering like a lovely meat and potato stew. No idea why I wrote that, but I’m saying it’s feisty here at Stamford Bridge with challenges flying in all over the place.

23: Booking for Bakayoko. The midfielder plays a quick one-to with Morata before ploughing into Jones. I’d have sent him off for the blue hair too be honest.

20: You don’t come much closer without scoring. Eden Hazard stings the palms of De Gea with a vicious angled strike, and Fabregas heads the rebound into the side-netting. Probably should have finished that.

18: Save! Romelu Lukaku rolls Christensen far too easily and draws a good save from Courtois. The Belgian has been livelier than in recent weeks.

16: It’s crazy to see how much better Chelsea are with N’Golo Kante in the side. I watched the tame defeat to Roma midweek, and this looks like a completely different side.

13: Jose’s been accused of strangling games recently. Well, that’s certainly not the case here. It’s pulsating stuff as Bakayoko misses a sitter.

Zappacosta’s deflected cross lands on a plate for the midfielder, who blazes over from six-yards away. This is a cracker!

10: Chance! Marcus Rashford should make the breakthrough but heads Ashley Young’s searching cross over from point-blank range.

Sky Sports do a slow-motion replay which shows the youngster closed his eyes when connecting.

Gary Neville screams: “Oh Marcus, you’ve closed your eyes!” about 15 times. Give the lad a break, Gary!

9: Disallowed goal! Marcos Alonso's cross is spectacularly diverted in by Phil Jones but the whistle had already gone because Alvaro Morata shoved him in the build-up.

7: So Jose Mourinho has kept his tactics the same with three at the back, two wing-backs and Marcus Rashford supporting Romelu Lukaku in attack.

6: Good work by Ashley Young to force a corner. Again it’s played short and Marcus Rashford’s inswinging cross is caught by Thibaut Courtois.

4: The Blues play a short corner to N’Golo Kante to shoot, but David de Gea easily gathers. Not the most prolific midfielder in the business.

3: I forgot to mention the handshake between Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. To say it was cold would be an understatement. There’s a real dislike between those two.

CHELSEA 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: After a perfectly-observed minutes silence to remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflict, we’re underway.

DAVID LUIZ DROPPED

16:20: Nope, I’ve not made a mistake in the line-ups. David Luiz has been dropped purely for tactical reasons, according to Antonio Conte.

"It's a tactical decision," Conte said.

Asked if it was over a disagreement or a bust-up behind closed doors that contributed to the Brazilian being dropped, Conte stressed that wasn't the case.

"No, no. Tactical decision," he added.

"There is Christensen in good form and we have Ampadu who is a good player at the club so I like to play with the young players."

AFTERNOON

16:15: Sorry I’m late folks, I’ve just hopped over (not literally) from the Etihad where Manchester City strolled to victory over Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side can now put their feet up and enjoy two of his title rivals take points off each other.

Oh, I should also mention that Everton are playing Watford at Goodison Park, but I doubt you’re here for that…

Chelsea vs Manchester United live updatesREUTERS

Chelsea vs Manchester United kicks off at 4.30pm

Chelsea vs Manchester United teams:

So there we have it, no David Luiz. He is the fall guy from Chelsea’s terrible Champions League performance in midweek.

Christensen, Cahill and Azpilicueta look set to play in central defence, with Zappacosta and Alonso out wide.

The forward line pretty much picks itself, although manager Antonio Conte could have drafted in a more attack-minded playmaker such as Willian or Pedro.

Instead Cesc Fabregas gets the nod in midfield.

As for Manchester United, Mkhitaryan keeps his place despite a lack of form recently.

Marcus Rashford will likely play off Romelu Lukaku, while Ander Herrera gets a run out in midfield.

Chelsea team: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso, Hazard, Morata.

Subs: Caballero, Rudiger, Ampadu, Drinkwater, Willian, Pedro, Batshuayi.
