The game was still goalless on 10 minutes when Rashford went up for a header with Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Rashford got there first but his effort below over the bar, with a goal seemingly certain.

Sky Sports co-commentator Neville was amazed Rashford had squandered the chance.

But upon the TV replay the former Manchester United right-back discovered why England’s young star had fluffed his lines.

“Marcus Rashford you closed your eyes!” Neville said.

“You closed your eyes.

“Just don’t look at the goalkeeper and he scores.”

Chelsea had already had a goal ruled out for a foul when Phil Jones converted into his own net at an atmospheric Stamford Bridge.

But the Blues ran out winners when Alvaro Morata rose to head home Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross in the second half.
