Chelsea news: David Luiz omission could cause player MUTINY - Graeme Souness

GRAEME SOUNESS believes Antonio Conte has risked the wrath of Chelsea players after he cast a shadow on the future of David Luiz.

Luiz was the big-name exclusion from Chelsea’s line-up against Manchester United yesterday.

It proved the correct call with the Blues running out 1-0 winners courtesy of Alvaro Morata’s first Premier League goal since scoring a hat-trick against Stoke in September.

Andreas Christensen was drafted in to the defence in place of Luiz and received praise for his accomplished display in Chelsea’s back three alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.

And the 21-year-old could be handed a longer spell in the starting line-up following Conte’s comments after the match.

When asked what Luiz’s omission meant for his future at Chelsea, Conte stated: “He has to work really hard otherwise he is on the bench or in the stand."

But Liverpool legend Souness believes the Italian coach is playing a risky game due to player power at Stamford Bridge.

"How many allies does David Luiz have in that dressing room?” Souness told Sky Sports.

"He'll have two or three that will side with him when push comes to shove and that is what makes a manager's position vulnerable.

"You're not falling out with one player, you're falling out with four, five, six and they could be worth £200m in the transfer market."
