Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah was a bargain for the Reds, says Ray Wilkins

That is the view of Sky Sports pundit and former Chelsea midfielder and coach Ray Wilkins.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in June for a club-record fee of £36.9million.

The Egyptian has made a stunning start to his career at Anfield, scoring 12 times in his first 17 appearances in all competitions.

That is only four goals fewer than Batshuayi’s career total at Chelsea, with the Belgian having joined in July last year for £33million.

When you think Batshuayi cost Chelsea £33million, he doesn’t produce stuff like that

With Salah only costing £4million more than Batshuayi, Wilkins believes it has been a shrewd piece of business from Jurgen Klopp.

“It’s a tad of a bargain isn’t it,” the Chelsea fan said this morning.

“When you think Batshuayi cost us £33million, he doesn’t produce stuff like that.

“Salah, he left Chelsea, he went to Roma, and he played.

“You never know what these guys can do unless they’re given a run of games.

“He’s scored goals in Rome and he’s doing exactly the same at Liverpool

“He’s almost becoming a bit of a cult hero there at Anfield.

“Some of his football has been outstanding.”
