Chelsea news: David Luiz will be sold if he's a problem for Antonio Conte - Charlie Adam

CHELSEA star David Luiz will follow Diego Costa through the exit door if he's a problem for Antonio Conte.

Joey Barton: Luiz will be sold in January if Conte is still manager

That's according to Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam in the wake of the Brazil international being dropped for Sunday's showdown with Manchester United.

Luiz has generally impressed since returning to Stamford Bridge last summer and helped Chelsea win the Premier League title in May.

But he came in for flak for his performance against Roma last week and was left out of Conte's squad for United's visit to west London.

Conte suggested post-match that Luiz had caused issues in training, leading him to miss the 1-0 win.

And Adam reckons Luiz will be sold if he continues to pose a problem for Conte.

"Conte is in charge, it doesn't matter who you are," Adam told Sky Sports' The Debate show.

"If the manager wants to get rid of you, he can. It just shows that he's got authority.

"Fair play to him, he got rid of Diego Costa because he caused problems, and if Luiz wants to go that way, he'll be out.

"When you let players get away with things, other players sense that, and then you may have five or six players against you.

"As a manager, you've got to stick by what you believe in. At the end of the day, the manager will go to the owner and tell him he's causing problems, and he could be sold.

"But players also know. They know that when a player isn't pulling their weight, players would say: 'Listen, sort yourself out.'

"The manager doesn't need to do his job 24/7, the players can control it too."
