Chelsea news: Andrea Pirlo will return to Italy, then make Blues decision - Mario Melchiot

ANDREA PIRLO will head back to Italy before contemplating a move to Chelsea.

That's the verdict of former Blues defender Mario Melchiot in the wake of the legendary midfielder's decision to hang up his boots.

Pirlo announced his retirement this week following a playing career that took in spells at seven clubs in Italy and the USA.

And he's been tipped to reunite with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, having played under the Chelsea boss for his country and at Juventus.

Speculation over Pirlo potentially heading to west London has intensified this week in the wake of Michael Emenalo quitting his role as Chelsea technical director.

He will probably want to take a break and spend time with his family back in Italy before making his next move

Melchiot has now had his say on what Pirlo is likely to do before making a decision on what his future holds.

"It has been rumored that Pirlo might join Conte at Chelsea as a coach," Melchiot explained on his personal blog.

"I don’t know if they’re true, and he will probably want to take a break and spend time with his family back in Italy before making his next move.
