They are team-mates on the pitch for France and yet the battle between N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba for Premier League midfield supremacy grew last season.

Now, according to FIFA 18, there is only one central schemer who emerges triumphant - and that is the diminutive title-winner Kante.

The former Leicester and now Chelsea midfielder has been ranked as the 35th player in the world on the new edition of the game from EA Sports.

Pogba, on the other hand, is 36th, while both players have been given an overall rating of 87 in FIFA 18.

Even so, some would be surprised to see Arsenal's Mesut Ozil outrank Kante after a few questionable seasons for the Gunners. Especially given Kante swept the honours last season after a second superb campaign on the spin.

Other Premier League players of note to be included in the 40-31 ranking in FIFA 18 are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has now officially rejoined Manchester United. He takes 31st spot in the list.

Ozil and Ibrahimovic are the only two Premier League players that have been given 88 as their rating so far by EA Sports.

Christian Eriksen, who helped Spurs to a second place finish, has been given 40th place in the rankings by EA Sports.

It is worth noting that PSG's Marco Verratti has been placed ahead of Kante and behind Ozil.

He joins team-mate Edinson Cavani in the top 40 - the Uruguayan is in 37th place in FIFA 18.

Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng is also highly rated in the game - which is to be released on September 29 - and is considered to be the 33rd best player in the world.
