United tie up sponsorship deal with Japanese social gaming firm ahead of pre-season tour

Manchester United have added to their ever-growing list of partners by entering into a two-year sponsorship deal with a Japanese social gaming company.

United commercial director Richard Arnold says the deal with gloops, a Tokyo-based developer of mobile video games, will 'help the club deepen our engagement with many of our 4 million followers in Japan.'

United, who clinched a 20th English league title on Monday, will visit Japan as part of their preseason tour this summer.

The Premier League giant says gloops will become its first 'social gaming partner, allowing them the right to create and distribute a statistical-based battle card social game in Japan.'

Gloops make mobile apps involving character-driven card games which users play while interacting with other members, and will use the sponsorship to release a special United-themed version of their product in Japan.

Their president, Shinsuke Kawakata, was eager to announce the deal, saying: 'We are delighted to be launching our partnership with Manchester United, to create new game titles for the Club’s millions of Japanese fans.'
