Chelsea starlet Andreas Christensen set for Borussia Monchengladbach loan as Sampdoria switch targets to Kurt Zouma

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is poised to join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.

The 19-year-old is awaiting final clearance from the Premier League champions ahead of securing a season away from Stamford Bridge.

Christensen arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2012 from Brondby and made his Premier League debut in the Blues’ a 3-1 win against Sunderland in the final game of the season.

As Sportsmail reported, Christensen has been considered by Sampdoria but they have switched their sights to his teammate Kurt Zouma who they wish to sign on loan.

Sampdoria are in the process of appointing former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga as their new coach.

Manager Jose Mourinho had previously issued a gentle warning to Chelsea's next generation of players that he cannot absorb them all into his first-team squad.

The Under 19s won the UEFA Youth League last week and the Under 18s defeated Manchester City to win the FA Youth Cup this season.

'Next season, Ruben (Loftus-Cheek) will not be a kid in the development process,' said Mourinho. 'He will be a first-team player, absolutely ready to play and compete. And we will do the same with two or three or four players.

'Some of the older ones will go on loan to play every game in the Championship or the Premier League, even abroad. And we will bring some of the younger ones into the process. But to have them all at the same time in the first-team squad is hard.

'I cannot have a squad of 10 men and 10 kids. I must have a squad like we have now of 16 or 17 seniors and three or four kids.'
