Colombia striker Radamel Falcao will join Chelsea on a season-long loan from Monaco this summer

The Croatia international spent last season with La Liga outfit Elche, scoring three times in 31 top-flight appearances as the club finished 13th in the table.

Falcao, who represented Colombia at the Copa America, is keen to return to the Premier League despite his disappointing loan spell with Manchester United last term.

The former Atletico Madrid man managed just four goals for United before Louis van Gaal opted not to sign him in a permanent £43.2million deal.

However his form at Old Trafford has not put off Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who hopes to help the striker hit the heights he managed with Porto and Atletico.

'It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United,' Mourinho said last month. 'If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it.'

The Premier League champions are close to finalising a £7m deal to take the 29-year-old for a year.
