Paul Pogba will be a perfect fit for Manchester United in the Premier League, says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Pogba has returned to his former club to become the world's most expensive player in a deal worth £100million.

Wenger believes his fellow Frenchman 'ticks all the boxes' for England's top flight following his record move from Juventus.

Looking ahead to the start of the new season at the launch of the Premier League, Wenger said: 'The value of a player is dependent on his talent, the expected strengthening of the team, his age and of course his resale value.

'When you speak about Pogba it ticks all these boxes, but we are in a system that we don't master. We have to follow the prices paid by other people.

'That has gone up because the availability of money is much higher. That's why we may have crossed the £100m bar for the first time.'

The deal for Pogba is worth an initial £89m, with agents' fees and certain clauses set to make it the first transfer ever to reach nine figures.

The amount of money involved has been criticised by some with Wenger believing it continues the trend of English clubs having to pay above market value.

Wenger argues the untold riches of the new Premier League TV deal will continue to have an impact in the transfer market.

'It makes the market more unpredictable,' the 66-year-old argued.

'Where you could approximately value a player before, today the identity of a club that comes in for a transfer is more important than the rest.

'If you go to Spain and you're an English club - straight away the inflation comes in.

'In France the clubs, among themselves, are very reasonable.

'If an English club comes in, the price goes up straight away because they know there is money in England.'

United's huge summer spending, which culminated with the Pogba deal, is a direct contrast to Wenger's approach.

The Arsenal boss has made midfielder Granit Xhaka his main signing but says he remains keen to add another defender to his squad.

Gabriel's injury in pre-season has left Wenger with just a handful of defensive options for his team's Premier League opener with Liverpool.

'We are in the transfer market, but we are focused on concentrating on our players - we have to get them ready for the season' Wenger said.

'On the other hand, with what happened with us, of course we are looking outside to strengthen our squad.'

Another Arsenal player to have had an interrupted pre-season is Jack Wilshere, but the injury-prone England man is in decent shape according to his manager.

'He has a very big year ahead - I must say his preparation was encouraging,' said Wenger.

'He had a little setback recently but it looks very minor and, of course, for us to have a great season it is important to have a great Jack Wilshere.'
