There was a meeting of champions on Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States on Monday as manager Jose Mourinho met up with NBA superstar Draymond Green.

The towering Golden State Warriors superstar, fresh from winning his second NBA title, swung by the United team hotel in Los Angeles.

And Mourinho, hoping to restore United to their familiar role as Premier League title contenders, was on hand to greet him.

Mourinho presented the basketball star with a personalised 'Green 23' United home shirt, while Green returned the favour with a Warriors top.

The Warriors won their second title in three years last month when they defeated arch-rivals Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the Finals series.

Mourinho rounded off his first season in charge at Old Trafford by winning the Europa League in May, having won the EFL Cup earlier in the campaign.

His aim now is to re-establish United as genuine Premier League challengers following a below-par sixth-place finish last season.

The hard work towards that has started in California, where United begin a five-stop US tour with a fixture against MLS side LA Galaxy on Sunday.

From there, the Reds travel to Utah to play Real Salt Lake on July 18, then face Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona in the International Champions' Cup competition.

United then return to Europe for matches against Valerenga in Oslo and Sampdoria in Dublin, before the UEFA Super Cup fixture with Real Madrid in Skopje, Macedonia.

They open their Premier League campaign with a home game against West Ham on Sunday August 13.
