'Romelu Lukaku's first touch is basically a pass!' Twitter users go in hard on £75m Manchester United man after poor control in training

  • Romelu Lukaku has joined Manchester United in a deal worth up to £90million
  • The striker managed 25 goals last season while playing for Everton
  • His first touch has been criticised and fans have reacted to a new video

Manchester United fans have been rightly bragging about their latest big-money signing, Romelu Lukaku.

The forward has joined up with the Red Devils in Los Angeles ahead of their pre-season tour of America after leaving Everton in a £75million transfer.

The reason United splashed all that cash is obvious - the Belgian striker will bring goals. He managed 25 last season, enough to make him the second highest scorer in the Premier League, and overall he has 85 goals in 186 top-flight appearances for Everton, Chelsea and West Brom.

However, it has been pointed out on more than one occasion that he is a little rough around the edges when it comes to certain aspects of the game aside from scoring.

Specifically, his first touch, which is a little heavy on occasions and lacks the finesse of some of his illustrious team-mates .

A post on Twitter that contained a 'lowlight' reel of his worst first touches went viral last week - and it seems as though it was playing on the minds of some supporters when watching him in training on Wednesday.

In a video posted online, a ball is played into Lukaku's feet. The Belgian forward struggles to control the pass and watches on as the ball bobbles away from him. Cue lots of panic.

One fan wrote: 'Lukaku's first touch is basically a pass', while another mocked up a fake quote to deride the striker: 'Lukaku: I wanted to sign for Chelsea but my took me to Manchester United'.

The mocking continued: 'Lukaku first touch problem is actually a thing. One would think he should be past this thing by now.'

Manchester United fans will have the chance to see Lukaku (and his first touch) in a red shirt for the first time very soon indeed.

The 24-year-old could feature in the club's first pre-season fixture against LA Galaxy on Friday at the StubHub Center in California.
