Romelu Lukaku is already breaking Manchester United records, the announcement of the agreement over his transfer fee is now the club's most retweeted post of all time.

Lukaku is yet to make a United appearance, but his mere arrival had made a small piece of history.

Saturday morning's tweet from @ManUtd that announced a transfer fee had been agreed with Everton for Lukaku has had more than 93,000 fans sharing it on Twitter.

The previous record was held by Lukaku's friend Paul Pogba in the first official photo of him wearing the United kit following his return to Old Trafford last summer, which got more than 88,000 retweets.


On the club's Instagram account, the same announcement about Lukaku's transfer fee has become the club's second-most liked post of all time with more than 869,000. 

The picture of Lukaku playing for Belgiumm accompanied by: '#MUFC is delighted to announce a fee has been agreed with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, subject to a medical and personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course', is just behind the trophy-lift photo from the Europa League final win over Ajax back in May.

Social media records or not, Michael Carrick was wary to pin too much on the shoulders of new striker Lukaku but thinks the Belgian will be his side's main man next season.

'You don't want to look to put everything on his shoulders, but that is why he has been brought here – to help at that end of the pitch, to score and create goals,' Carrick told MUTV. 

'Of course, he is going to be the [main] one we look to for scoring goals and I am sure he will.'
