Juventus weighing up Nemanja Matic move as manager Massimiliano Allegri wants to rival Manchester United for £40m Chelsea midfielder's signature

  • Allegri wants his club to try to sign Matic and Antonio Conte wants to sell abroad

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri wants his club to rival Manchester United for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Matic, 28, wants to push through a move to United following the arrival of Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayoko at Stamford Bridge but manager Antonio Conte would ideally like to see him leave the Premier League rather than head to Old Trafford.

And Allegri hopes Juventus could offer that option with a transfer to Serie A.

Juventus have been discussing Blaise Matuidi from PSG but Allegri is a fan of Matic and wants the Italian champions to try for him.

Conte would prefer to sell Matic abroad if he could but few can match the salary and length of contract that United can offer the Serbia midfielder.

Inter Milan have also shown interest in the Serbia international but will struggle to match his salary and contract wishes.

Matic is 28 and United would be willing to offer him a longer-term contract to move to Old Trafford.

Should he stay at Chelsea he may only be offered a two-year extension and then faces the prospect of one year rolling offers as he would be over 30.

Jose Mourinho has discussed how he would like a more experienced player at the centre of his midfield to hold their position and protect his defence.

But Allegri is on the look-out for a similar option and the preference of not being in direct competition with their former player may make Juventus a more enticing choice for Chelsea.
