Wayne Rooney has revealed his first pair of Everton pyjamas having joked he had worn Toffees clothing to bed during his 13 years at Manchester United.

The boyhood Blue, who returned to Goodison Park last week, admitted he had worn Everton pyjamas with his kids despite playing for the Red Devils for more than a decade.

On Friday evening, the 31-year-old took to Instagram to share an image of his young self wearing the top featuring the letters EFC above Prince Rupert's Tower and said: 'My first pair of Everton pyjamas.'

Upon signing, Rooney admitted in his first interview: ‘I’ve kept it quiet for the last 13 years but I’ve actually been wearing Everton pyjamas at home with my kids.

Clearly a die-hard Evertonian despite leaving the club for Old Trafford at the age of 18, Rooney added more magic to the fairytale as he scored on his return.

Hitting a near identical goal to the one he netted to announce himself against Arsenal aged 16, Rooney scored in the Blues' 2-1 win over Gor Mahia during the club's pre-season trip to Tanzania.

Having put his side ahead in the 35th minute in the club's first pre-season friendly against the Kenyan opponents, he immediately raised his arms to the sky in celebration.

Everton, meanwhile, will face either Ruzomberok of Slovakia or Norway's Brann in the third round of qualifying for the Europa League.

Ronald Koeman's side were one of 25 sides that entered the draw at the third-round stage, alongside the likes of AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbache. Should they progress from the two-legged tie they will reach the play-off round - the final hurdle before the competition proper.

The first leg of the third-round qualifier will be played at Goodison Park on Thursday July 27 with the return scheduled for August 3. Brann head into the second leg of their tie with Ruzomberok having won the first leg in Slovakia 1-0.
