Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Sadio Mane and Emre Can will be in the squad for the match with Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Liverpool take on the Bundesliga outfit in a pre-season friendly and Klopp is eager for his players to use the match as an opportunity to impress ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

However, for some players, the weekend's match also gives them a chance to build up their fitness levels after a prolonged spell out or an extended summer break.

Mane, who returned to training last week, is set to make his first appearance for the Reds since April after recovering from knee surgery.

However, Klopp has ruled out a return for Danny Ings, who also suffered from a long-term knee injury.

Klopp told Liverpool's official website: 'Danny will not be in the squad, for him it is too early - but Sadio will be in the squad for sure.

'Danny looks good – fantastic actually – but playing is a little bit different. We thought about giving him the opportunity to play with the U23s because we have the opportunity, especially with the strikers, but it makes not too much sense.

'We wanted him here so he really could train with us, but he will not be in the squad tomorrow.'

Meanwhile, German international Can, who was given an extended break due to his Confederations Cup commitments with Germany, could feature in Berlin.

Asked about a potential return for Can on Saturday, Klopp replied: 'Yes [he will be in the squad]. After this long time, of course he is keen to play that’s how footballers are.'
