Bayern Munich confirm new signing James Rodriguez will miss start of the season after picking up thigh injury

Bayern Munich have revealed James Rodriguez will miss the opening weeks of the Bundesliga season after picking up a thigh injury.

The Colombian, who moved to the Allianz Arena on a two-season loan deal from Real Madrid this summer, suffered the setback in Bayern's 3-0 defeat by Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

Bayern confirmed the injury which will also rule Rodriguez out of the German Super Cup final against Borussia Dortmund.

A statement on the club's website read: 'FC Bayern will have to make do without new signing James Rodríguez in the coming weeks. 


'A thorough examination by FC Bayern's medical unit revealed that the Columbian [sic] sustained a muscle injury to his right thigh in the 3-0 Audi Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool.'

Thiago Alcantara will also miss Saturday's match against Dortmund after he had to receive treatment against the Reds on 20 minutes.

The statement continued: 'Thiago Alcantara will miss the Super Cup final against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday with an abdominal muscle injury.

David Alaba, meanwhile, also picked up a knock and will train alone on Thursday.

'David Alaba, who had to be subbed off against Liverpool as well, received treatment on Wednesday and will train individually on Thursday.'

While it proved to be a disappointing night for Bayern, Liverpool also suffered a blow despite the impressive victory as Daniel Sturridge was forced off as he scored the third goal of the night.

The striker will miss the Reds' Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid at the Allianz Arena after an injury scare.

The 27-year-old was substituted as a precautionary measure after sustaining a thigh problem as he exquisitely lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Sturridge will not feature on Wednesday night but the club have not ruled him out of any other games, with the Reds due to face Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Saturday.
