Tottenham 2-0 Juventus: Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen score as Spurs secure victory in their temporary home but Kieran Trippier limps off injured

  • Kieran Trippier floated in a cross for Harry Kane to head past Gianluigi Buffon in the 10th minute at Wembley
  • Miralem Pjanic's dreadful backpass allowed Kane a chance for a second but he failed to take the opportunity
  • Moussa Sissoko then struck the post as he missed an opportunity to score his first ever goal for Tottenham
  • Trippier was substituted off injured following a sliding challenge by Juventus defender Alex Sandro
  • Christian Eriksen doubled Spurs's lead after he latched onto a through ball from Dele Alli and rounded Buffon
  • Kane unleashed a powerful effort but it crashed off the crossbar as Tottenham went in search of a third
  • Juventus' 17-year-old striker Moise Kean hit the bar from 12 yards out with the Tottenham goal at his mercy
  • Trippier was later spotted sitting on the substitutes bench holding crutches and wearing a protective boot

An injury to Kieran Trippier was the only downside in an otherwise superb dress rehearsal for Tottenham Hotspur against a star-studded Juventus side at Wembley Stadium.

Trippier was involved in a collision with Juventus left-back Alex Sandro – the £60million Chelsea target – and later left on crutches while wearing a boot.

It is a cause for concern for Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham, who sold their former first-choice right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m this summer.

'We don’t know yet,' said Pochettino. 'We will assess him on Monday and then we will see. We hope it is not a big issue. He twisted his ankle.

'Until we assess him and scan him we need to wait. The feeling now is better than half time but still we need to wait.'

Tottenham travel to Newcastle in the Premier League next week, though they will be encouraged by this excellent 2-0 win in front of 26,251 fans.

Their opener was courtesy of a combination between Trippier and Harry Kane, who headed home the 26-year-old’s inviting cross. Their second was from the clever feet of Christian Eriksen.

It could have been better, too, as Tottenham hit the woodwork twice and largely controlled last season’s Champions League finalists, albeit in a friendly.

This seemed a Juve side to send shivers down the spine, with Gonzalo Higuain, Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala, Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini on show.

Sandro was among the starters and those scouts from Chelsea had one last chance to take a look. They will have seen the 26-year-old collide with Trippier in the opening minutes after a sliding challenge, causing winces with the replays on the Wembley screen.

Despite his apparent agony, Trippier continued, and was heavily involved in Tottenham’s well-worked opener against the Italian giants.

After superb build-up play, the ball was spread to the right wing where Trippier crossed for Kane, who headed downward to beat Buffon. A top team goal.

In the 34th minute, Tottenham mustered a counter-attack, led by Moussa Sissoko. The £30m midfielder cut inside, aimed for the far corner but saw his shot smack off the inside of the post. The wait for his first Tottenham goal will go on.

It was then that Trippier hurt himself following a sliding tackle on Sandro. This time, he was left with a right leg injury and hobbled off with the support of a physio. Kyle Walker-Peters, the 20-year-old who has never played in the Premier League, replaced him.

Tottenham were all over Juventus and took a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute when a through-ball by Dele Alli found Eriksen, who went around Buffon to score.

Soon after, Kane became the second Spurs star to wallop the woodwork when he saw his shot crash off the crossbar. At their temporary home, the English club were enjoying themselves.

There was still time for Juventus to hit the woodwork themselves, however, when Moise Kean failed to finish a side-footed shot from less than 10 yards.

That was in the 80th minute and in the 85th they did it again. A fierce shot by former Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado saw Hugo Lloris tip it on to the crossbar and out.

Tottenham have not had the greatest of times at Wembley – their record last season saw them win just one of their four European fixtures here. They also lost in the FA Cup semi-final to Chelsea.

Yet this was a boost of confidence against a strong Juve side as Pochettino’s players aim for another Premier League title push this season.
