Real Madrid 2-1 Manchester United - UEFA Super Cup PLAYER RATINGS: Luka Modric shows his enduring class on a difficult night for Victor Lindelof

Luka Modric starred for Real Madrid as goals from Casemiro and Isco took them to a comfortable UEFA Super Cup victory over Manchester United.

Romelu Lukaku scored on debut for Jose Mourinho's men but it was the European champions who came home with silverware once again in Skopje.

Here, Sportsmail looks at how the players rated in the showpiece curtain-raiser for a new campaign on the continent.

REAL MADRID (4-3-3)

Keylor Navas 6

Might have done better with United's goal and struggled with a Paul Pogba effort earlier. Big save from Marcus Rashford, though.

Dani Carvajal 7

Has looked rash in the past but seems more composed. Super cross for the opener. Booked.

Rapahel Varane 7

Such a colossal figure for Real. Romelu Lukaku barely got any change out of him.

Sergio Ramos 7

Not hard to see why United have tracked him for so long. Classy centre half. Booked.

Marcelo 7

Majestic when flying forward and a real threat, but also solid defensively.

Casemiro 7.5

Impressive game in midfield, scoring the first and breaking up play nicely.

Toni Kroos 7

One lapse in concentration just before half-time but otherwise fairly flawless in possession.

Luka Modric 8

Just runs games on the quiet. A genius at managing situations and never in a rush.

Isco 7.5

Has his critics in Spain but looked lively and took his goal well.

Gareth Bale 7

Should've scored when he smacked the bar but a constant threat. Would improve most teams in Europe.

Karim Benzema 6.5

Big and strong but Chris Smalling stuck to his task quite well against the Frenchman.

MANCHESTER UNITED (3-5-1-1)

David De Gea 7

Can't be faulted for either of the goals and made a couple of great stops to keep United in it.

Victor Lindelof 5

Way too early to judge him but struggled on tour and Tuesday night was no different. Seemed to switch off for the first goal with his hand in the air.

Chris Smalling 6.5

Came away with great credit. A number of significant blocks and looked more assured than at times last season.

Matteo Darmian 5

Too weak in the challenge to be part of a back three and will not be in the starting XI with everyone available.

Antonio Valencia 6

Gave away the ball a touch too often, although there were times when he forced the issue going forward.

Nemanja Matic 7

A sign of things to come, particularly in the first 45 minutes when he bailed United out with smart interceptions and positional play.

Ander Herrera 6

Not really on it for a change and the new system might take time to adapt to.

Paul Pogba 6

Selfish when breaking clear in the first half. Did some things fairly poorly but others exceptionally well. A mixed bag.

Jesse Lingard 6

Left wing back for the night and was caught between a rock and a hard place. A really tough ask. Booked.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6

Quick feet in behind Lukaku but his final ball was not quite good enough.

Romelu Lukaku 6.5

One huge miss, another poacher's finish and struggled against Real's formidable defensive pairing.
