AC Milan have 'Zlatan Ibrahimovic fever' and are keen to help the Manchester United forward secure a sensational return to the San Siro

AC Milan are hoping to continue their summer spending spree with a sensational move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 35-year-old, who is in talks with Manchester United over a new contract, scored 56 goals in 85 appearances for the Italian giants between 2010 and 2012.

He is set to be sidelined until the new year following a knee ligament injury. But Italian paper Corriere dello Sport claim Milan have caught 'Ibra fever' and hope he can partner another strike target, Nikola Kalinic.

'A return to Milan (for Ibrahimovic) is not a utopia,' the paper claim. They are 'studying Zlatan's recovery time... The dream is to partner him with Kalinic.'

Under new Chinese owners, Milan have already spent more than £150million this summer, bringing in 10 new players such as Leonardo Bonucci.

They have been linked with a number of new strikers during the transfer window, including Diego Costa and Andrea Belotti.

But after Torino club president Urbano Caino confirmed that the Italy international would not leave this summer, Milan have reportedly turned their attention to Ibrahimovic and Fiorentina's Kalinic.

The forward, who has been linked with a move this summer, has been training at United's Carrington AON complex for his rehabilitation.

As reported by Sportsmail on Wednesday, the Premier League club have begun negotiations with Ibrahimovic, who is understood to want to remain at Old Trafford.

'Maybe he’ll stay with us,' Jose Mourinho said before their Super Cup defeat by Real Madrid. 'He’s not got a contract but he’s still close to Manchester.'
