Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker makes series of bizarre admissions in Q&A with boss Arsene Wenger: 'My favourite pet is a Guinea pig'

  • Per Mertesacker and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger have taken part in a Q&A
  • The questions thought up by club sponsor Emirates drew some bizarre answers
  • The oddest was perhaps that the defender's first choice as a pet is a Guinea pig

Ever wanted to know Per Mertesacker's favourite pet? You would say it is probably not the question most Arsenal fans want answering.

Apparently Emirates airlines do though. So they set up a bizarre question and answer session with the big German defender and boss Arsene Wenger and posted the video on their Twitter.

For the record Mertesacker likes Guinea pigs and thinks his boss should play Richard Gere in a movie (no one told him Gere is an actor, not a character).

Perhaps the most interesting question in the clip was whether Wenger would prefer to travel somewhere the sun doesn't rise or the sun doesn't set. Apparently the Arsenal boss likes the dark.

The only time time the conversation drifts on to football is when Mertesacker asks if he would be picked if it was the FA Cup final and Wenger had no strikers available.

'Yes,' replies Wenger unequivocally, 'every day.'

Quite why this conversation took place is unclear as is whether Mertesacker will be fit enough to line up against Leicester in the Premier League opener on Friday night. The centre half suffered a gruesome facial injury in the Community Shield penalty shootout win over Chelsea.

'We have plenty of uncertainties from players that didn't play against Chelsea,' admitted Wenger earlier this week.

'[Aaron] Ramsey, [Mesut] Ozil, Mertesacker, [Laurent] Koscielny is suspended.

'We have players coming back who have not played like [Shkodran] Mustafi and [Alexis] Sanchez but Sanchez will not be available.

'I can take gambles on one or two but I must focus more on players who had the right numbers of minutes in recent weeks.'
