Aston Villa are interested in landing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The Arsenal academy graduate is free to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer before his contract expires at the end of the season.

And having already lured John Terry to Villa Park, manager Steve Bruce is plotting another audacious move for Wilshere.

On Monday, the 25-year-old played his first game in an Arsenal shirt for nearly a year as the club's Under 23s side faced Derby in the Premier League 2 competition.

Wilshere has been out since April after fracturing his leg playing on loan for Bournemouth against Tottenham but completed 75 minutes at St George's Park.

There were a few signs of class from Wilshere, who was mainly operating in a deep midfield role alongside Francis Coquelin.

However, he still looked some way short of match sharpness, which is understandable given he only returned to full training this month.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are hopeful Shkodran Mustafi will be available for Saturday's clash against Stoke.

The Gunners defence, without mainstays Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny, looked suspect during Friday's win over Leicester.

The Germany international reported for pre-season training later than normal due to his involvement in the Confederations Cup earlier this summer.

But £35million centre-back Mustafi is in line to make the squad for the weekend clash against Mark Hughes' side.

Koscielny, however, will certainly miss the visit to the Britannia Stadium through suspension.

The France international could feature for the Under 23's against Manchester City on Monday night ahead of the clash against Liverpool on August 27.
