Manchester United 'rely' on Anthony Martial, says the striker's cousin and there's 'no possibility' of him leaving

Anthony Martial's cousin insists there is no chance the striker will leave Manchester United this summer.

Martial had a notable pre-season and appeared as a late substitute for Jose Mourinho's side against West Ham on Sunday, scoring the third and setting up Paul Pogba for the fourth in their 4-0 victory.

The French forward's cousin, Jema, commented on his future at the club on Twitter - amid reports of a rejected Tottenham bid - before swiftly deleting the post.

He wrote: 'For Manchester United, Anthony's departure is not a possibility, even on loan. They rely on him.'

Martial joined United in 2015 in a £36million switch from Monaco and has scored 16 Premier League goals for the club in 57 appearances.

Despite falling out of favour for the majority of last season, with Mourinho preferring to pick Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Martial has remained a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

The Stretford End were in full force for United's Premier League opener at the weekend and they were singing his song loudly while he warmed up.

Martial mainly operated from a left-wing position last season and Mourinho's persistent pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic this summer has cast doubt on the Frenchman's future.

Inter, themselves have expressed an interest in taking Martial away from Old Trafford but Mourinho dismissed making him part of any deal for Perisic, indicating the Frenchman is still part of his plans.

The Portuguese manager was full of praise for his dynamic performance against Real Madrid in a friendly last month but insisted he needed to be more consistent before he could consider selecting him.

'Obviously we want more consistency in his talent,' Mourinho said at the time. 'I think today was positive for him, that's why I left him on for 90 minutes on the pitch.

'He was enjoying and was trying things, it's important in these friendly matches to try things and he did, so it's good for Anthony and his confidence.

'He's a young player, still time to learn, still time to improve, still time to develop, and it's also his personality. I can say that he is training better than before, he's working harder than before, it's a question to bring his talent more in a consistent way.'
