Manchester United not a 'dream team', says Jose Mourinho as he looks to put a lid on expectations

  • Manchester United enjoyed an good start to the season, beating West Ham 4-0
  • It raised expectation of Jose Mourinho continuing his second season title record
  • The United boss has tried to play that down saying his side aren't a 'dream team'

Manchester United's flying start to the season does not make them a 'dream team', Jose Mourinho has insisted.

United thumped West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend, raising expectations that Mourinho can maintain his record of winning the title in his second season at every club he has coached.

But the Old Trafford boss is refusing to get carried away ahead of Saturday's lunchtime kick-off at Swansea.

He said: 'I'm too experienced and stable to lose my discipline, my stability, and to think a 4-0 win really makes us the best team in the country, the favourites or the dream team.

'We're not favourites, we're not the dream team, we're just a team with more confidence than last season, with more time of working together, but I'm calm.

'When I look to the last match, I like many, many things, but the challenge is not to repeat the result, because a 4-0 win is difficult to repeat in the Premier League, but to repeat the same kind of performance.

'We had good tactical discipline in the team, a really good clean sheet, played good football, had a good dynamic in attack, we were scoring goals, winning 1-0 and we kept playing to try to score more goals and to try to play well.'

Mourinho still wants to add a wide player despite spending £146million on Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof, and has been strongly linked with Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic and Gareth Bale at Real Madrid.

Asked about making a fourth signing, Mourinho said: 'I don't think we are, unless something happens to put us in the market again.

'I told (executive vice-chairman) Mr (Ed) Woodward my plans were four, but I also told him be cool – no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club.'
