Stoke

Jack Butland 9 - Looks England quality and needed to be as Arsenal carved out numerous one-on-ones. Saved particularly well from a Ramsey far-post volley.

Kurt Zouma 7.5 - Big strong defender who relished his tussle with Welbeck and did well in coping with the other pacy forwards.

Ryan Shawcross 6.5 - Missed a great chance to head Stoke in front and struggled with Arsenal's pace but organised his defence well.

Geoff Cameron 6.5 - Like Shawcross, caught out by Arsenal's movement but made up for the with his effort and tackling.

Mame Diouf 5.5 - Not a natural defender and Arsenal tried to exploit that down his right flank. Did make a couple of decent interceptions though.

Darren Fletcher 7.5 - Going to be an important player for Stoke this season as he showed with his reading of the game and tackling.

Joe Allen 6.5 - Put in a real shift, especially given the amount of tracking he had to do in midfield, and made some key blocks and challenges.

Erik Pieters 6 - Couple of unforced errors could have been punished but his work rate up and down the left was noteworthy.

Xherdan Shaqiri 5 - Lasted 24 minutes until what looked like pulled hamstring ended his afternoon prematurely. Had little chance to shine to that point.

Maxim Choupo-Moting 6 - Missed a great chance from 12 yards, chipping at Cech, and looked a little off the frantic pace of a Premier League game.

Jese 8.5 - Going to be a big Stoke favourite and made sure of that with an early chance, an electrifying run and the opening goal.

Subs:

Sadio Berahino (for Shaqiri) 7 - Played the all-important role in the Jese goal and looked sharp throughout.

Ramadan (for Jese) 6 - Brought on to add fresh legs to Stoke's late defensive stand and did just that.

Bruno Martins Indi (for Pieters) - Too late to mark

Subs not used: Grant, Johnson, Martins Indi, Crouch, Bojan.

Arsenal

Petr Cech 6.5 - Alert to an early chance that had him sprinting off his line but had no answer to a good finish from Jese

Shkodran Mustafi 6 - Yet another Arsenal defender who does not look particularly comfortable in this system and Stoke fans unhappy wth late lunge at Pieters.

Nacho Monreal 5 - Still should not be played at the back in this sort of formation and it showed with the chances Stoke were able to carve out.

Sead Kolasinac 6 - Loves a physical tussle but was the obvious player to make way as Arsenal chased the game and Wenger went to a back four.

Hector Bellerin 6.5 - Busy down the right, especially in the first half, and came close to picking the Stoke defence on more than one occasion with his crossing.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 8 - His pace against Pieters was a weapon and one superb pass set up Welbeck for a great chance.

Aaron Ramsey 6.5 - Two really good first half chances were kept out by Butland but he continued to find space behind the Stoke back three.

Granit Xhaka 5.5 - Gave the ball away too often, a bad habit for a defensive midfielder, and failed to impose himself against supposedly modest opposition.

Mesut Ozil 5.5 - Started brightly, like his team, but became increasingly anonymous as Stoke began to take control. Needed more from him.

Danny Welbeck 5.5 - Busy and a constant threat but needs to find a more clinical edge. Missed three good chances.

Alexandre Lacazette 5.5 - Still finding his way into a new club and system, 'scored' his only chance but was offside.

Subs:

Olivier Giroud (for Kolasinac) 6 - Some nice touches in and around the box as Arsenal launched a late onslaught but nothing decisive.

Theo Walcott (for Lacazette) -Too late to mark

Alex Iwobi (for Xhaka) -Too late to mark

Subs not used: Ospina, Mertesacker, Coquelin, Elneny

Referee: Andre Marriner 6 - Not a particularly challenging day for the experienced official but kept a pacy game moving though Stoke not happy with late Mustafi challenge on Pieters.
