Manchester City to make fresh £70m bid for Alexis Sanchez after Arsenal aimed for player and cash deal

  • Arsenal wanted Raheem Sterling to be included in a swap deal for the Chilean
  • But Manchester City are keen for Alexis Sanchez's move to be for straight cash
  • And they have now upped their offer to around Arsenal's valuation of Sanchez

Manchester City are prepared to increase their bid to around £70million for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners turned down a £50m offer from City for the Chile international on Tuesday night but have decided that Sanchez should be allowed to leave after the Liverpool game.

The Emirates side have been pushing for a deal involving a player swap, possibly including England winger Raheem Sterling.

This follows a meeting between Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff after the humiliating 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, their second loss in three Premier League games.

A decision was made that players who clearly want to leave the north London side should be allowed to depart, as long as their valuation is met.

This led to Arsenal accepting Chelsea's £35m offer from Chelsea for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, although he looks unlikely to move to Stamford Bridge.

And now negotiations are underway with City, Pep Guardiola's side have decided to up their offer for Sanchez, as they would prefer a straight cash deal.

Arsenal are still keen to secure a replacement as part of the deal, given the transfer window slams shut on Thursday night at 11pm.

An offer of £70m may convince them to let Sanchez leave. The Chilean could leave for free next summer, when his contract expires.

Guardiola is not keen to let Sterling depart after his two goals at the start of the new Premier League season, including the dramatic late winner at Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
