West Ham have not given up on Gomes just yet, despite Tottenham being the front-runners.

The Hammers’ stance all day has been that they don’t expect much activity today, but there have been discussions over Gomes.

Spurs are favourites, but a source at West Ham has said the club will be on ‘standby’ on Thursday night and are ready to step in.

Tottenham have already signed one player this Deadline Day.

Serge Aurier became the club's third summer arrival when his protracted £23m move from PSG was completed around lunchtime.

West Ham would be frustrated to see Gomes join Spurs.

The London Stadium outfit had been hopeful of landing Gomes without making any payment to Barca by guaranteeing that he would play in 70 per cent of their games.

Gomes has spent only 12 months at Barca since joining from Valencia last summer.

The midfielder was a key part of the Portugal side that beat France to the European Championship title in 2016.

Gomes has made just one appearance so far this campaign after playing 47 times last season.

Meanwhile, West Ham have failed in their pursuit of Everton forward Kevin Mirallas.

The Hammers made an approach for the Belgium international but it was immediately rebuffed.
