Leicester sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Aleksandar Dragovic on loan after missing out on Calum Chambers

  • Leicester had an £18m bid for Calum Chambers rebuffed by Arsenal
  • Craigh Shakespeare turned his attention to Aleksandar Dragovic on Thursday
  • Harry Maguire, Wes Morgan and Yohan Benalouane are the only fit centre-backs

Leicester have brought in centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic from Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

The club had tracked Dragovic for some time and added him to their defensive options on Thursday.

Craig Shakespeare tried for Calum Chambers earlier on deadline day with an £18million bid but later turned his attention to the 26-year-old Austrian international.

A deal for Dragovic was completed shortly before the 11pm cut-off point, after sorting things out for a position that had become problematic.

Shakespeare has Harry Maguire and Wes Morgan to call upon but Robert Huth is still working his way back to full fitness.

Yohan Benalouane has fallen well down the pecking order after making a rash challenge in pre-season that angered the Leicester manager.

Dragovic has Champions League and Europa League experience with Leverkusen and Dynamo Kiev and is a regular in the Austrian team.
