Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer may only have one week left in the job after disastrous start to the season

  • Frank de Boer could lose his job before next Sunday's game against Burnley
  • The Dutchman was appointed to the helm at Selhurst Park in the summer
  • But a terrible start to the season sees De Boer facing a premature exit

Frank de Boer could lose his job even before next Sunday's game against Burnley.

Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish is ready to admit that De Boer is simply the wrong fit for the club.

Meetings between Parish and the manager this week will determine whether the Dutchman gets one more game to change the dynamic and momentum at the club after three consecutive Premier League defeats have left them in the relegation zone.

De Boer may yet be able to convince Parish that he needs more time to produce the goods and lift the Londoners. But there are those at Palace who feel the manager's style of football is unsuited to the club and that the adaptation has been a greater challenge than anticipated.

Although there is undoubted respect for De Boer's previous achievements, it may be that a quick change suits all parties and ensures Palace do not lose further ground.

Parish, though, will need to have a replacement lined up, with Sam Allardyce saying he has rejected the chance to go back and Rafa Benitez looking too expensive to prise from Newcastle.

That leaves former England manager Roy Hodgson as the favourite, which would represent something of a homecoming for the Croydon-born manager.

He trained with Palace as a youth but never made a senior appearance for the club.
