Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has opened up the possibility of being a future manager of the club by insisting he'll stay in football after his playing days are over.
Kompany, whose Belgium side will qualify for the World Cup if they beat Greece on Sunday, will not plan his future until he has completed the two remaining years of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, but is adamant he will never walk away from the game.
'I don't know where I will be in football when I finish but it's 100 per cent certain I will remain in football. It's my passion,' he said.
Vincent Kompany is already planning for a life off the pitch and on the manager's bench
The Manchester City captain sees himself as perfect material to lead from the touchline
'It's like studying to be a doctor, doing all your exams and thinking "I'm 32 now, I am not going to be a doctor".
'I've played and lived this game since I was six years old so I don't see a reason why I should throw all that experience away all of a sudden.
'I have got good contact with the younger people here and I just love bringing across my experience and how I see certain things. I have learned from the best from their mistakes as well as my own and hopefully I will be better because of that.'
The 31-year-old is only focusing on Belgium and Manchester City up until 2019
Kompany, 31, has made an excellent start to the season it is not beyond the bound of possibilities he could earn a new deal as a City player after 2019 if he remains injury-free.
Longer-term, he is seen as natural management material after skippering City to two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups.
Despite the central defender's legendary status at The Etihad however, he insists he won't be banging on the club's door about a new deal.
'I've given myself the obligation to not think about anything regarding future contracts until my present contract is up,' he said.
'I'm really easy in my relationship with the club. It's that good, there won't be any panic on their side or my side. Let's get the most out of these two years with City and international level and let's see where we are at – no stress.'
Kompany is contracted at the Etihad for the next two seasons and isn't looking for a new deal
