Phil Jones has lauded England and Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford following his match-winning display at Wembley.

Rashford stole the show by claiming an assist and scoring a winner for England after making a costly mistake in the build up to Slovakia's early opener.

The 19-year-old earned plaudits from Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate and his team-mates after Monday night's display and Jones has joined the list of his admirers.

'He's a great lad off the pitch and, on it, he's a special talent,' Jones told Manchester United's official website

'He's already special but he'll be a world-beater one day, he's that good.

'He's so quick, sharp, technically gifted, two-footed and a nightmare for defenders. You've seen it this season already, he's given defenders nightmares.

'He's an academy product and players from the youth system have done great over the last few years. He's a special player and we're lucky to have him.'

Jones appears to have earned the trust of Jose Mourinho with Manchester United yet to concede a Premier League goal with the former Blackburn Rovers man and Eric Bailly impressing at the heart of the Red Devils' defence.

And the 25-year-old has put his recent form down to facing top strikers in training as well as against top-flight rivals.

He added: 'As a defender, you want to play against the best strikers in the world. You want to test yourself and prove to people that you’re good enough to do that.

'Playing against these players in training every day makes me a better player. It gives me a better understanding of how to deal with these types of players when they’re on the opposing team.'
