La Liga president slams PSG again for ignoring FFP rules and bizarrely claims £198m Neymar transfer has 'caught them peeing in the swimming pool'

  • PSG and Manchester City both spent eye-watering sums of money over summer
  • La Liga president previously claimed the sides were 'irreparably damaging' sport
  • Javier Tebas says Neymar transfer was like PSG 'peeing in the swimming pool'
  • PSG have responded, saying UEFA are 'welcome at our offices with pleasure'

Head of the Spanish League Javier Tebas has accused Paris Saint Germain and Neymar of being caught 'pissing in the pool' over the player's €222m transfer.

Tebas was speaking at the football industry convention 'Soccerex' held in Manchester and was quoted by various Spanish media saying: 'They [PSG] are laughing at the system.

'I hope I'm not being crude but a Spanish journalist defined it as pissing in the pool and you have to put it in those terms.

'If Neymar is up on the diving board he is pissing from the diving board. We at least need to open an enquiry, this needs to be investigated.'

Tebas originally showed his anger at Neymar's move to PSG in the summer when he refused to accept receipt of a cheque from the player's representatives to buy him out of his contract. They had to go directly to the Camp Nou to register the money with Barcelona.

Tebas added: 'European football needs to know that there is an incredible risk when the money comes from countries.'

Spanish football believes it is a victim of double standards because the European Comission has punished its clubs for receiving illegal state aid in the past and now they see clubs such as Manchester City and PSG being bankrolled by Abu Dhabi and Qatar.'

In an interview in Diario Sport on Tuesday Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu echoed the sentiments saying: 'The market is inflated by the money that does not come from football, it comes from somewhere else. Something has to be done.'

Asked if he was speaking about Qatar, the president replied: 'Yes, and Abu Dhabi, two countries that have two clubs. If Bayern, United, Madrid or Arsenal buy a player off of you, you know where the money has come from but these [other] clubs distort the market.'

Tebas urged Uefa to investigate both PSG and Manchester City but European football's governing body has no intention of looking into City's affairs despite their summer spending spree.

La Liga's president says Manchester City's solicitors have been in touch with the league following his complaint to UEFA, as the argument threatens to turn into a legal battle.

PSG, meanwhile, were quick to respond to the allegations at a press conference for Kylian Mbappe on Wednesday.

The club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: '(We are) very confident (about) the UEFA investigation. We're very transparent.

'They are welcome at our offices with pleasure. We have nothing to hide.'

As a way of attempting to improve his credibility, La Liga boss Tebas cited his previous criticism of Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, noting: 'Where are they now? I think I was right...'

The argument comes in response to Manchester City spending a whopping £220m in the window, bringing the likes of Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to the Etihad.

PSG, meanwhile, were the most high-profile buyers over the summer, signing both Neymar and Mbappe for eye-watering sums.
