David Wagner admits luck has helped Huddersfield make stunning Premier League start as Terriers hope to pile more misery onto West Ham

  • Huddersfield Town are unbeaten with two wins from three top flight games
  • The Terriers are yet to concede a single Premier League goal this season

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner hopes Lady Luck continues to smile on his side when they return to Premier League action at West Ham on Monday.

The Terriers occupy the dizzy heights of third place in the table after taking seven points from their first three games and they will head for the capital chasing a fourth straight clean sheet.

Wagner's side are only the second newly-promoted team not to concede a goal in their first three Premier League matches. Only five sides have done so in their opening four games of the season.

'I will let the players know that they can write history in the Premier League at Huddersfield Town,' Wagner said.

'We know how difficult it is to get one clean sheet in the Premier League and now we have three in a row.

'This is fantastic, of course it is. They've done a lot of things right, but on the other side we know exactly - and first of all we have a great goalkeeper - but we were lucky in some situations as well.

'We could easily have conceded a goal in those three games. Hopefully we'll have Jonas Lossl at his best and a whole team which is fighting for the next clean sheet.

'You need a little bit of luck to have a clean sheet. If this is the case on Monday, hopefully, then we have at least a chance to get another result.'

West Ham's campaign has started in total contrast. The Hammers are bottom after three straight defeats and the pressure is mounting on boss Slaven Bilic.

Hammers fans plan protests against the club's board at their first home game of the season - London Stadium was not ready due to the athletics World Championships - but their plight is of no concern to Wagner.

'I've no idea if it's a good time (to play them) and to be fair it doesn't bother me what's going on at West Ham because this is nothing we can influence,' said the pragmatic German, who feels Bilic deserves more time to turn things round.

'This is of no interest to us. We have to make sure we get our details right and are focused on ourselves.

'This is the most important thing to have a chance on Monday and we are still humble enough to know it will be the big West Ham United against the small Huddersfield Town.'

Wagner confirmed all eight of his international players were in good health, while he has no concerns over travel fatigue due to two extra days' preparation.

Striker Collin Quaner is nursing a bruised knee, while latest signings Abdelhamid Sabiri and Florent Hadergjonaj both played in Sunday's friendly win against Altona 93 in Germany and will be in contention.

'We are excited. We are ready,' Wagner added. 'The Olympic Stadium, 60,000, this is something very special for us and we're excited about this atmosphere it will have there.

'West Ham is a proper Premier League club with a big name and a big history. They have a good manager, good quality.

'We are totally aware of what is in front of us, but we will be focused first of all on ourselves and get a lot of our details right to be a strong competitor.'
