Bournemouth full-back Charlie Daniels has won the Carling Premier League goal of the month award for August following his stunning half-volley against Manchester City.

Daniels, who is the most adventurous of the Cherries' backline, scored four league goals and provided three assists last season and he got up and running in style against Pep Guardiola's side.Ā

The left-back signed a new three-year contract with the south coast club on Thursday, putting pen to paper on his 31st birthday, and he has capped a fine start to the month by earning the accolade for the best Premier League goal in August.

'All of the lads when I came in said 'have you seen your goal yet? It's unbelievable!'' Daniels said. 'I didn't actually see it until a little bit after. It was nice. There were some nice angles.'Ā

Daniels beat off competition from Burnley defender Stephen Ward for his brilliant effort in the 3-2 win over Chelsea, while Sadio Mane also missed out for his strike on the opening day against Watford.

Mane had a second nomination for his effort against Arsenal in the 4-0 win for Liverpool at Anfield, but the Senegal star was overlooked by a panel of experts and theĀ public, who represent 10 per cent of the total votes.

Etienne Capoue, Jese Rodriguez and Aaron Mooy and Marcos Alonso were also included on the shortlist for lighting up the first month of the season with stunning strikes.

But Daniels' rocket, which gathered pace and veered into the top corner beyond the reach of City goalkeeper Ederson, was a deserving winner.

It was a goal worthy of winning any match, but having been cancelled out by Gabriel Jesus' equaliser, Bournemouth went on to lose the match in the dying seconds courtesy of Raheem Sterling's bundled effort.

Having added the goal of the month to his new deal at the Vitality Stadium, Daniels will hope to convert his individual achievements into points for his side, with Bournemouth currently in the bottom three following three opening defeats.Ā
