Frank de Boer insists his job is safe at Crystal Palace and that the club will not throw his project 'overboard'.

De Boer has made a poor start to life in England, with Palace losing their first three Premier League games without scoring, including comprehensive home defeats by Huddersfield and Swansea.

The Dutchman admitted he held extensive talks with chairman Steve Parish during the international break, but spoke of a 'long-term project' at Selhurst Park on Friday.

'My bottle is half full,' said De Boer. 'We want to be a stable Premier League club. You don't suddenly throw this overboard when you have a bad start.

'Louis van Gaal at Bayern Munich lost the first few games and then was a Champions League finalist. Giovanni van Bronckhorst lost seven games with Feyenoord. That year he won the cup and the next year the title.

'Suddenly it can change very quickly. Pep Guardiola lost his first two games when he started and everyone thought, "What is he doing?"

'Suddenly the players understood and the puzzle fell together and they got good results. I'm convinced if we do what we can do that I am going to be here a very long time.

'I have a good relationship with the chairman. I have the confidence and he has the confidence that the results will come. Of course, the sooner the better.'

There is concern that Palace's players have failed to adapt to the tactical demands of De Boer, who will always be associated with expansive football after a career at Ajax and Barcelona.

But he said: 'I want to play like Barcelona, but we haven't got the players. Then you adapt to what you have. Starting with 5-3-2 is just a small change, rather than going overboard and playing 4-3-3. So we have to choose what is most suitable and how we get better results as soon as possible.'
