Swansea 0-1 Newcastle, Premier League RESULT: Jamal Lascelles powers home header to give Toon win

Jamal Lascelles's header grabs all three points for Newcastle United who have now won back-to-back games to get their season up and running following a slow start.

As for Swansea, there will be disappointment following the quiet debut of Renato Sanches in an overall performance that saw the Swans struggle to create chances again.

90+4min: Final chance for Swansea? Jordan Ayew wins a free-kick to the left flank 35 yards out...

...only for Sam Clucas's delivery to fail in clearing the first man. Rubbish.

90+2min: It's still all Swansea as Bony releases Narsingh into the box, who from a tight angle sees his shot parried behind by Elliot. The Toon survive the resulting set-piece.

90+1min: There will be five added on minutes which incorporates a  minute or two where Mawson needed treatment a moment ago. 

88min: Dwight Gayle is now booked for the Toon after appearing to block a quick free-kick from Swansea near the halfway line.

The Swans are throwing everything at the Toon in these final few minutes, but following a corner Leroy Fer nods over with a free header.

86min: A second change for Swansea as Luciano Narsingh comes on to replace Carroll while Mikel Merino receives treatment for Newcastle.

84min: The 2,000 travelling fans are in full voice right now with the largest chant being for a man who isn't even in the ground as 'Rafael Benitez' reverberates around the Liberty Stadium.'

80min: Some frustration among the Swansea ranks as Fer is booked for a poor challenge on Atsu.

78min: Final change for Newcastle as Dwight Gayle comes on for Joselu.

76min: Jamal Lascelles has already denied Swansea the opening goal, now he grabs one at the other end after attacking a Matt Ritchie corner kick from a central position to bullet a header past the helpless Fabianski. Swansea's zonal marking and Mawson perhaps the guilty party in the defence there.

75min: Just like the first half Joselu tests Fabianski with a header following a cross, but this one is too close to the Swansea keeper who takes easily.

Moments later Joselu tries his luck again only for his low shot to be too weak in troubling the stopper.

73min: Perez picks up a pass inside the box, but the Newcastle forward, despite getting his shot on target, can't find a way past Fabianski who has enjoyed an excellent afternoon in the Swansea goal.

70min: Meanwhile Diame also comes on to replace Isaac Hayden for the Toon.

69min: But it is indeed Sanches coming off for Swansea to polite applause from the home fans as Bony replaces him - his (re)introduction greeted with a huge cheer. Not even wearing a ridiculous No 2 for a striker can put him in the bad book of the locals.

68min: Newcastle are also preparing a change as Mo Diame is getting ready to come on.

65min: Wilfried Bony has been given the nod on the Swansea bench and he will be coming on soon.

Who will he replace? Not certain at this stage but the call did come seconds after Sanches clumsily lost the ball in midfield. The Portuguese's afternoon has been on a downhill slope after a promising opening five minutes.

63min: Atsu's looked lively since coming on and times his run to escape Kyle Naughton on the left. The winger's cross leaves much to be desired though as Federico Fernandez heads clear.

60min: What a chance! Tammy Abraham times his run to get behind the Newcastle defence and onto a through pass before then darting past Elliot.

With just an empty goal to slot into, the striker fires on target only for Lascelles to make an astonishing recovery and clear off the line with a sliding challenge

59min: Jacob Murphy departs for the Toon as he is replaces by Christian Atsu.

58min: It's Sanches and it's bobbins as he blasts way over the crossbar as Newcastle prepare a change.

57min: Promising opportunity for Swansea as Sanches is bundled over 30 yards by Perez for a free-kick.

56min: Brilliant play from Swansea! After Kyle Naughton's powerful low cross is cleared the hosts recycle the attack.

Jordan Ayew is found onside inside the box and his deft chip pass over a couple of yards results in Tom Carroll firing a near post effort well saved by Elliot.

53min: I forgot Ayoze Perez was even on the pitch. He's certainly forgotten what the goal looks like as a shot from the egde of the box flies way over the bar.

50min: Now here's a talking point. Matt Ritchie is now booked after raising a high foot to the face of Alfie Mawson.

The significance of it is that it's almost a carbon copy of the challenge Sadio Mane was sent off for yesterday. For my money he is a lucky boy to stay on the pitch there - although he is perhaps aided by not having caught the defender in the face.

48min: Into the book goes Kyle Naughton who after losing his footing takes one for the team by tripping Jesus Gamez and ensuring the Toon cannot break.

Renato Sanches has featured heavily in the first half for Swansea City, mainly occupying the right side.

The on loan Bayern Munich star though hasn't been able to provide much creativity though in a first half where Newcastle arguably had the better of the opportunities. Here is his first half heat map.

And let's face it it's only because of a wonder Fabianski save that Newcastle do not have the lead.

Both sides have had chances though with Swansea going close through Ayew and Mawson. Overall an enjoyable first half... save for the first 20 minutes. That was rubbish.

43min: It's called football for a reason, Jamaal Lascelles. A low cross drops towards the feet of the Newcastle United but instead of simply clearing his lines with a volley he tries to meet it with the lowest of diving headers.

As a result he ends up stopping the ball with his stomach, and with a little assistance from the playing surface, before the Toon eventually get the ball away.

41min: Tempers are starting to flare between the teams here as Swansea win a free-kick 40 yards out after Merino clumsily trips Leroy Fer... then seems to disagree with the decision.

39min: Chance for Swansea! From that corner the set-piece finds Mawson, but the defender can only nod back across goal and just wide. This game is finally coming to life after a slow start.

38min: Better from Swansea. Tammy Abraham tracks back to rob the ball off Hayden, and from it Jordan Ayew picks up possession. The striker lets fly with a 25-yard strike but now it's Elliot palming wide with  good save.

36min: And you may not see a better referee call than this too. There are furious appeals from Newcastle after Merino tumbles in the box under a sliding challenge from Alfie Mawson, but replays show the Newcastle midfielder had dived over the Swansea defender's leg.

33min: Oh my word what a save! Joselu's glancing header from a cross looked destined for the back of the net but Fabianski at full stretch somehow tips the ball behind the post. You will struggle to see a better save this weekend.

30min: Not a bad effort from Joselu but his dipping strike clears the crossbar. Promising stuff from the Toon though who have woken up after a quiet opening 20 minutes.

28min: A small break in play as Sanches and Mikel Merino both require minor treatment before resuming play.

Nonetheless it does lead to Swansea players going for a warm up, and a big ovaition for the returning Wilfried Bony.

27min: Murphy strikes back in his battle with Fernandez. The Swansea defender poorly heads upwards trying to cut out a long ball over the top but as the ball drops back down the Newcastle forward can only volley way off target.

26min: The delivery into the box is cleared as far as Sanches on the right, but despite a neat attempt at a cross with the outside of his boot there are no takers inside the box as Ciaran Clark heads clear for the Toon.

23min: Silly challenge from Javi Manquillo who trips Martin Olsson on the left flank to give Swansea a free-kick outside the Newcastle box.

20min: Swansea are looking to overload on the right - where Sanches is occupying space - but so far the Swans just can't find any gaps in the Newcastle defence. All in all, quite an uneventful first 20 minutes at the Liberty Stadium.

17min: Around 2,000 Newcastle United fans chant the name of Rafa Benitez, while on the pitch Jacob Murphy is almost effortlessly barged off the ball by Federico Fernandez. Swansea have the slight edge but are not creating anything to trouble the visitors.

14min: Still no clear cut chances at the Liberty Stadium, with neither side really on top at this point. Sanches is playing deep in the Swansea midfield but aside from a few fancy tricks has yet to influence proceedings.

11min: Mikel Antia is wired in inside the Newcastle technical area - perhaps listening to instructions from Rafa Benitez.

Fellow colleague Paco de Miguel is meanwhile seated in the dugout as Swansea try to take control of possession.

8min: Into the book goes Isaac Hayden after body checking Renato Sanches, whose back heel flick had beaten the Newcastle midfielder. A promising start for the Bayern Munich starlet.

5min: The greasy surface has led to a fast paced start to this game. fast enough to be unsustainable for the 90 minutes.

The ball breaks in the Swansea box for Isaac Hayden whose stabbed effort is well claimed by Lukasz Fabianski.

3min: That doesn't stop Tom Carroll from having a go though, although the midfielder's surprise shot doesn't come close to troubling Rob Elliot in the Newcastle goal.

2min: No need to water the pitch in south Wales as the rain is falling quite heavily as Leroy Fer wins Swansea a free-kick to the right of Newcastle's goal and 30 yards out - a bit too far out for a shot though.

HARRY SLAVIN: Newcastle United fans have accused the Premier League of 'selling their soul' over TV rights as supporters prepare for an exhausting quartet of away fixtures all moved for Sky Sports cameras.

Rafa Benitez's side travel to Swansea on Sunday afternoon for a 4pm kick off at the Liberty Stadium, and supporters will be embarking on the longest journey any away fans have to make in the top flight this season – a 708-mile round trip.

Due to the revised kick-off time, it is impossible to get back to Newcastle on public transport after the match, with the last train to the North East leaving at 5.51pm from Swansea station, over a mile away from the ground.

JAIME WRIGHT: Newcastle United have confirmed that manager Rafael Benitez will be miss Sunday's Premier League clash with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Sportsmail reported this week that the 57-year-old has been recovering from a procedure on an infection from a recent hernia operation and has been absent from training on three occasions.

The club have released an official statement, which read: 'The team will be led by Rafa's coaching staff, who will be in contact with the manager throughout matchday. 

'Everyone at the club wishes Rafa a speedy recovery. Share your messages using #GetWellSoonRafa.'
