Benitez makes himself heard

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez missed Sunday's Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium but the Spaniard was not to be left out of proceedings.

The 57-year-old is recovering from a procedure on an infection from a recent hernia operation with his coaching staff taking charge of this one.

However, Benitez was still able to pass on instructions as coach Antonio Gomez was seen in the stands with headset passing on messages to Mikel Antia on the bench, Benitez providing input from home.

Sanches a lucky boy?

Renato Sanches' first foray into Premier League football did not go exactly to plan.

Swansea's new loanee, arriving with a big reputation from Bayern Munich, drew plenty of criticism for giving the ball away and should have received his marching orders shortly before half-time

The Portuguese midfielder recklessly kicked Joselu in the groin as the Newcastle man went for a header but was fortunate to see the referee merely laugh and wave play on.

Ritchie an even luckier boy?

In almost an exact repeat of events at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Matt Ritchie found himself in hot water after a high foot to the face of Alfie Mawson.

Sadio Mane was controversially sent off for Liverpool after after catching boot Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with his boot and Ritchie nearly followed suit.

However, the 28-year-old was shown only a yellow card for his foul, perhaps because less contact was made.

Geordies show their frustration

Newcastle fans did not miss a chance to display their dissatisfaction after accusing the Premier League of 'selling their soul' over TV rights.

Sunday's game was the first of a long quartet of away fixtures all moved for Sky Sports cameras, the revised kick-off time meaning it was impossible to get back to Newcastle on public transport after the match.

And supporters took aim at football's executives, one in-particular showing off a personalised shirt criticising television contracts, get-out clauses and marketing departments for damaging the beautiful game.

Fabianski's wonder save

The match entered the first half goalless but that would not have been the case were it not for Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The Poland international struggled during his time at Arsenal but consistent first team football has seen him go from strength to strength since joining the Swans.

And he shone again on Sunday,  producing a stunning fingertip save to somehow prevent Joselu's glancing header from nestling in the far corner.

Swansea's unwanted record

Another blank for Paul Clement's men leaves them with the worst attacking record in the top flight.

Sunday's defeat means the Swans have now failed to score for the third time in four games.

They have also had the fewest shots (26) of the season so far whilst facing the most (78).
