West Ham 2-0 Huddersfield, Premier League RESULT: Freak Mathias Jorgensen own goal and Andre Ayew's strike set Hammers up for three points
- Javier Hernandez smashed a shot against the crossbar in the 13th minute
- Pedro Obiang's shot hit Mathias Jorgensen and looped in with 18 minutes left
- Andre Ayew came off the bench to prod home just three minutes later
- REPORT: Martin Samuel reflects on the action from the London Stadium
Slaven Bilic celebrated three points on his 49th birthday as West Ham got off the mark in the Premier League with victory over Huddersfield.
A freak own goal from Mathias Jorgensen and Andre Ayew's scrappy strike were enough to secure a 2-0 win at the London Stadium.

From me, it's goodnight.
MARTIN SAMUEL AT THE LONDON STADIUM: There may not be a scruffier goal scored this season but, right now, West Ham will take it. Beggars cannot be choosers, and West Ham had a hand out hoping for any scrap of good fortune against Huddersfield last night.
David Wagner has forged the meanest defence in the country in the brief time elapsed this season and West Ham were struggling desperately to find a way through. And then, in the 72nd minute, the break.
They say fortune’s always hiding in this corner of London, but it stuck its head out of the bunker for Pedro Obiang at last here.
The Hammers move up to 18th. Further up the table, Huddersfield are sixth.
Slaven Bilic's team give him three points for his birthday. A freak own goal and Andre Ayew's scrappy strike are enough to lift West Ham up off the bottom of the Premier League table.
90 mins: Rice replaces Obiang.
Four minutes of time added on to come at the London Stadium. Three points in the bag for the hosts.
88 mins: More good work from Huddersfield, as they switch play from left to right and find Ince inside the area. Once he switches the ball inside onto his right foot, however, he can't get a shot away.
84 mins: Depoitre replaces Billing.
82 mins: Carroll is replaced by Sakho.
80 mins: Ince clatters the West Ham crossbar from the edge of the box as the visitors try to find a route back into the game.
A massive impact from Ayew, who slides in to tap home from close range after Huddersfield fail to clear a corner with what feels like his first touch. That should be three points for Bilic on his birthday.
75 mins: Sabiri replaces Kachunga.
Obiang is celebrating but this may well end up being given as an own goal. His shot looks like it's slicing towards the corner flag before it smashes off the back of Jorgensen and loops into the back of Lossl's net off a post.
Bilic goes mad on the touchline. That's the stroke of luck he's been waiting for.
67 mins: Oh dear. The atmosphere inside the London Stadium is starting to sour. Collins lobs a long ball to absolutely no one and jeers and whistles emanate from the stands.
They could have turned into full-on boos had Mooy found the top corner from 20 yards. As it was, the ball has ended up in the crowd.
65 mins: 'You're getting sacked in the morning,' sing the Huddersfield fans in the direction of Bilic. The Croatian needs his side to find something in these last 25 minutes.
64 mins: Ayew replaces Hernandez. It's not a popular substitution.
63 minutes: Malone replaces Lowe.
Well this was bound to happen after all those 'Dildo Brothers' slurs against West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan last week...
56 mins: Tidy football from West Ham. Fonte's lofted pass is nudged forward into the path of Kouyate and he turns smartly only to shoot wide.
54 mins: Huddersfield test Hart. Billing collects the ball in midfield and is urged to shoot by the Terriers fans as the West Ham defence backs off. Shoots he does, and his fierce daisy-cutter is well held by Hart.
49 mins: It's a poor sliding tackle from Zabaleta on Van La Parra and he rightly goes in the book.
48 mins: Hernandez on set-piece duties now... but the result is the same. The Mexican's effort from 25 yards is high, wide and not at all handsome.
Can the Hammers get the goal they need for their first win of the season?
It's not been a classic, though there have been signs of encouragement for West Ham. Huddersfield still haven't conceded this season.
45 mins: An odd one for Billing, who has possession and is shielding the ball from Zabaleta when the Argentinian runs into his arm.
43 mins: It's been 17 months since Cresswell scored. That's not going to change any time soon with attempts like that. A 30-yard free-kick sails miles over. Looks like this one will be goalless at the break.
40 mins: Dear, dear. Another huge chance for the Hammers as Carroll causes massive disruption in the Huddersfield box from a left-wing cross and the ball falls to the unmarked Kouyate 10 yards from goal. It sits up like a surprised meerkat but Kouyate can't control his volley.
That's kind. It's a pretty feeble effort which dribbles out for a goal-kick.
37 mins: Yet another corner from yet another deflected shot, this time from Antonio. The pressure is building again.
36 mins: Ambitious from Carroll... first time, from a ridiculous angle, fully 25 yards. He gets a corner from the slightest of deflections.
30 mins: West Ham want a penalty after Kouyate tussles with Smith in the box. Replays show him going to ground like a ruined game of Jenga. Referee Friend made the right call.
29 mins: Antonio is the scourge of Huddersfield so far tonight and his surging run down the right wins another corner, which Cresswell swings to the back post, Lossl jumps at and misses and Carroll heads towards goal. The ball deflects off a Terriers head and out.
26 mins: West Ham's biggest chance. Cresswell swings in a left-wing free-kick and Collins makes some connection, but not enough to get past Lossl.
25 mins: Jorgensen goes in the book after taking out Antonio.
21 mins: Carroll gets a shot on target, but he's only just managed to connect from 20 yards out and the toe-poke dribbles into the arms of Lossl.
It is very, very west here. It has been torrential since kick-off. The covered areas behind the goals are becoming saturated.
20 mins: West Ham's early pressure has eased somewhat, as Huddersfield find their feet in midfield. Mooy is starting to have things a little more his way but no threat to Hart's goal just yet.
13 mins: Hernandez has clattered the bar from eight yards out after Antonio cantered down the right and picked out his team-mate with a low cross.
He should really be doing better there. And you'd expect him to do so, too.
11 mins: Ouch. There's a big old collision between two Huddersfield players as they defend a corner, and Billing has not come out of it well. He's having treatment after smashing his head into a fellow defender.
Eight mins: It's chucking it down at the London Stadium, where Huddersfield make their first foray into West Ham territory and Ince briefly threatens... but it quickly breaks down.
Involved start for Andy Carroll, making his first appearance since April. Two attempts on goal and some great hold-up play in the opening four minutes. Watch him hobble off in about 15 minutes’ time...
Four mins: Two sights of goal for Carroll in a little more than three minutes. This time it's Zabaleta who creates, with a deflected cross making its way to Carroll on the volley.
Back to goal and 15 yards out, it's not even a half-chance. Barely a quarter of one. High and wide.
Two mins: First chance for West Ham, who have made a furious start to the match. A long ball into Carroll inside the Huddersfield penalty area causes havoc, the big man brings it down on his chest and fires it across goal, where three lunging Hammers can't direct it goalwards.
Close.
Bubbles float on the London air for the first time this season as Huddersfield get us under way.
Can West Ham end their losing streak? Will Huddersfield's fairytale start continue?
Let's find out.
Sam Allardyce is a big fan of Huddersfield under David Wagner.
'The shrewd signings have added to the side. The excitement about getting promoted carries on into the early stages of the season,' he said.
'They’ve made life very difficult for the opposition and reaped the rewards.'
Danny Dyer has chipped in with his tuppence-worth ahead of kick-off.
'I’m nervous… it’s like an FA Cup final,' he said. 'Either way we’re West Ham until we die so let’s have it.'
The Terriers are looking to make a bit of history tonight...
Huddersfield boss David Wagner has given his pre-match views to Sky.
'Like always, we should be focused on ourselves and I hope we are prepared,' he said.
'We wanted to find a setup where we are competitive. It wasn’t in my mind to keep the same 11 players but it happened.
'We are altogether excited. It’s a great occasion, even if like to make ourselves independent in the circumstance. We have to take everything we wanted to do when we spoke before the game and make it happen on the grass.'
An interesting take on the battle of the gloves tonight, from our friends at Betting Expert.
West Ham are bottom with a -9 goal difference, Huddersfield have yet to concede a goal. With that in mind, have a look at the stats for keepers Joe Hart and Jonas Lossl...
Slaven Bilic has been talking about the impact of Andy Carroll as he returns for West Ham tonight.
'Andy always has a big impact whenever he is on the pitch and he is fit, he has been training with us for four weeks and he looks sharp,' he told Sky Sports.
'We didn’t want to push him before, we wanted to make sure he is fitter and fitter.
'It’s a big boost for us and it’s good to have him on the pitch.'
Andy Carroll starts alongside Javier Hernandez for the first time this season for West Ham. Mounie continues to lead the line for Huddersfield.
West Ham: Hart, Collins, Reid, Fonte, Zabaleta, Kouyate, Obiang, Cresswell, Antonio, Carroll, Hernandez.
Subs: Adrian, Sakho, Ayew, Ogbonna, Byram, Masuaku, Rice
Huddersfield: Lossl, Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Lowe, Mooy, Billing, Kachunga, Ince, van La Parra, Mounie.
Subs: Malone, Sabiri, Coleman, Williams, Depoitre, Hadergjonaj, Hefele.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
Jamie Carragher has waded into the debate over Frank de Boer's dismissal at Palace over on Sky's Monday Night Football.
He said: 'If you lose four matches at the start of the season then you’re going to be fearing for your job.
'There’s been a rhetoric of ‘he won’t change his style’. I watched them at Liverpool and they were as direct as I’ve seen.
'In the second game he went direct and they were a Benteke chance away from winning the game.'
Non-Hammers related news and Sam Allardyce has confirmed he will NOT be going back to Crystal Palace.
He revealed that Palace chairman Steve Parish did call him today.
'I spoke to Steve late this afternoon and said for me, I wouldn’t be ready to come back. I’ve made the decision and I wouldn’t feel comfortable at this moment in time being a football manager as I’m enjoying my life at the minute,' Allardyce told Sky Sports.
'He didn’t offer me the job. He just said ‘what are your thoughts’. Obviously I told him what I was thinking… at this moment in time I wouldn’t want to go back in.
'I’m obviously very sad after all the hard work that went in last season to rescue the team and get 41 points.'
Slaven Bilic is under no illusions about the importance of tonight's match.
He said: 'Home form is the key. You need to get points at home. That's a must. The fans come, and you want to feel at home.
'This isolated game is doubly important because we have zero points from three away games. So we need the points.'
It ain't pretty for the Hammers. Even Crystal Palace, who sacked manager Frank de Boer on Monday after four defeats and no goals in four games this season, sit above them in the Premier League table.
CHRIS SUTTON: This game is pivotal for Slaven Bilic. The West Ham manager looked a broken man after Newcastle wiped the floor with his team two weeks ago.
Bilic wears his heart on his sleeve and you could see the dejection written all over his face. He cannot afford another limp performance on Monday night.
And welcome along to Sportsmail's live coverage of the Monday Night Football clash between West Ham and Huddersfield at the London Stadium.
It's a massive game for Hammers manager Slaven Bilic - under pressure after three defeats on the bounce at the start of the new campaign - while his counterpart in the Terriers dug-out, David Wagner is enjoying a terrific beginning to life in the Premier League.
Lose, and it could mean the sack.
Keep up with all the action right here throughout the night.
