Chelsea striker Diego Costa is hoping the club can conclude transfer talks with Atletico Madrid by the end of the week.

Atletico are making a revised proposal of £40million, plus £9m in add-ons and a £4m bonus payment for Costa's early release.

Costa wants to travel to Madrid on Tuesday night where he hopes to stay and train while the clubs thrash out terms.

Chelsea wanted Costa to return to training and settle his difference prior to agreeing to his sale but there is also a desire to get the matter resolved quickly so it doesn't become a greater distraction to Antonio Conte's plans.

The two sides meet in the Champions League on September 27 and are keen to have a deal resolved before then.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal are also showing an interest in taking him on a short term loan until January.

Despite posting images of his own workouts, Costa has not trained properly since the end of the season and will take time to reach the levels required for match fitness.

He has not played for Chelsea since the FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal back at the end of May after it was revealed in the summer that Conte sent Costa a text message, telling him that he was no longer in his plans.

The Spanish international is unable to register for Atletico until January once their transfer ban elapses.

Furthermore, Fenerbahce and Besiktas had recently been linked with taking Costa on loan until January but nothing had been agreed before the Turkish window closed on September 1.

Reports in Turkey claimed Costa's representative Ricardo Cardoso had been trying to broker a loan to Fenerbahce.

And the club's manager, Aykut Kocaman, revealed that they nearly got their man on loan.

Kocaman said: 'We were really close to signing Diego Costa but now we seem far away.'
