Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he still has no return date for 'suffering' Danny Rose as he battles to end his eight-month injury nightmare.

The club say the intention is for Rose to resume training in the coming weeks, but Pochettino revealed he is in the dark over when he might be able to pick the England international.

Rose has not played since damaging his knee in the goalless draw with Sunderland on January 31 and his recovery has dragged on in a similar manner to that of Erik Lamela, who has not played since October 2016 because of a serious hip problem.

Pochettino, in discussing when the 27-year-old and Lamela would be back, said: 'First I am a coach and not a doctor. They know better than me. We cannot say in one week or two weeks. We are assessing them every day.

'I think they are doing well but still we have to wait and we cannot give a date when they can return to the group and start training.

'Am I worried about Danny? Of course I suffer because he is our player like Lamela and different players. You always want them fit and healthy and ready to compete available for selection.

'After the long term, I think it is difficult for him because players love to play football and be fit and healthy. He is suffering a lot ā€“ for eight or nine months ā€“ since January. It is a very difficult situation.

'We all try ā€“ the staff and everyone ā€“ to help him to keep pushing and try to be motivated as possible to be fit again and be available to help the team.'

In addition to Rose and Lamela, Victor Wanyama will miss the Swansea clash at Wembley on Saturday with a knee injury.

Pochettino expects an improved league showing at the club's temporary home ground after beating Borussia Dortmund at the national stadium in the Champions League in midweek.

He said: 'It is clear it is important for us. It will help us build our confidence and trust playing at Wembley. We must feel we are playing at home. (Beating Dortmund) will help us in the future.'Ā
