Liverpool striker Danny Ings close to a return following latest injury scare

Liverpool forward Danny Ings is nearing a return to full fitness after his latest injury scare.

The 25-year-old, whose stay at Anfield has been disrupted by a string of fitness problems, was taken off during the Reds Under 23s' clash with Manchester City earlier this month.

But the withdrawal was only a precaution and the forward is now back training with the first team and close to a return to action.

He could feature in the U23s' visit to West Ham on Monday night or even the first team's Carabao Cup tie against Leicester on Tuesday night.

Ings joined Liverpool from Burnley in 2015 and his stay on Merseyside has been ravaged by two long-term knee injuries.

The forward has made only 11 first-team appearances for the Reds and last featured in the Premier League back in May 2016.

WIthout him, Jurgen Klopp's side have made a mixed start to the season. Since appearing to outline their title credentials with a 4-0 demolition of Arsenal last month, the Reds have been 5-0 by Manchester City and held at home by Ings' former club.

They sit eighth in the table, five points off leaders Manchester City, heading into Tuesday's third-round clash with Leicester at the King Power.
