- Gary Rowett was looking to add a midfielder and was keen on former Celtic man
Derby County have confirmed the signing of Joe Ledley on a free transfer.
The Wales midfielder has been a free agent since leaving Crystal Palace in the summer and has signed on short-term deal at Pride Park Stadium.
Gary Rowett has been looking to add a midfielder after seeing the deadline day transfer of Maikel Kieftenbeld fail due to paperwork.
Joe Ledley has joined Championship side Derby County on a short-term deal until January
Ledley was called up by Chris Coleman for the World Cup qualifiers earlier this month but did not feature at all, and the Wales manager would be pleased if the 30-year-old's move goes through as expected.
The owner of 73 caps, Ledley has been a key figure for a number of years and starred in a deep-lying role at Euro 2016.
Ledley turned down offers from abroad to wait for the right club and ambitious Derby appealed to him and he could now be involved in the squad for Saturday’s visit of Birmingham.
It is understood that Ledley would need to gain match fitness before being considered but club minutes would be positive news for his country ahead of the final two World Cup qualifiers in October. Derby have three matches in total before then.
