Rafinha reveals he was targeted by Premier League sides... but Bayern Munich defender insists he is '100 per cent committed' to German giants

  • Rafinha has played four of Bayern Munich's five Bundesliga games this season
  • The defender signed a contract extension with Bayern last until 2018
  • With David Alaba out injured the Brazilian is currently filling the left back spot
  • The 32-year-old is '100 per cent' committed but desires consistent playing time
  • Chelsea were one of many interested in securing the defender this summer

Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has revealed that offers were on the table from both English and Spanish clubs during the summer, admitting he would be open to a change of scenery.

According to ESPN, the Brazilian, who has won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern, was the subject of many offers with a possible deadline-day swoop by Chelsea one of them, but a deal failed to materialise.

The 32-year-old signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga champions in December 2016 which was due to keep Rafinha in Bavaria until next summer, and while he is committed to Carlo Ancelotti's team, the defender desires consistent playing time.

'Bayern's bosses know I already had offers from England and Spain before the season started,' he said. 'I have Bayern in my heart and I always give 100 per cent. They can always count on me.

'Therefore, I think those responsible understand that I really want to play, otherwise I will have to think about my future.'

Rafinha, formerly of Schalke, has featured in four of Bayern's five opening league games, including their shock 2-0 defeat at Hoffenheim early in the season, and has appearances in the Champions League under his belt.

But the spot in the starting 11 is only likely to be a temporary one with Rafinha currently filling the position of first-choice left back David Alaba while he recovers from injury.

And Germany international Joshua Kimmich occupying the right back slot.

With uncertainty surrounding his position under Ancelotti, Rafinha will have one eye firmly fixed on the World Cup in Russia next summer, desiring regular playing time to solidify his place in their squad.

Despite these concerns, Rafinha insisted: 'I have a very good relationship and contact with the coach [Carlo Ancelotti] and I'm convinced I will get my game time.'
