West Ham will auction shirts worn in this weekend's London derby against Tottenham to raise money in aid of the Mexican earthquake.
The Hammers will double the proceeds from the auction, which will help deliver food and supplies to the victims of the earthquake, before donating the total amount to the appeal organised by Javier Hernandez and Miguel Layun to aid the relief effort in Mexico City and the surrounding area.
The West Ham and Mexico international striker Hernandez is leading the initiative called #YoXMexico alongside his international team-mate Layun and hopes it will be able to help those affected by the disaster.
West Ham to auction shirts worn against Tottenham to raise funds for Mexico earthquake relief
The devastating 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico on Tuesday, leaving thousands of families homeless and killing over 200 people.
'Seeing the suffering of our compatriots has been very painful,' said Hernandez.
'We know that many see us as a source of inspiration, but in this case, what has inspired us is to see millions of Mexicans take to the streets and to lend a hand without asking for anything in return.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan says they will double the amount raised from the auction
'We hope, with this initiative, to help those who need it and motivate more people to do it with us.
'Miguel and I are very grateful to have the backing of everyone at West Ham United and all of its supporters at this difficult time for our country.
'It is a fantastic gesture and we hope it can help us raise funds that will make a difference in Mexico.'
West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan added: 'We hope this auction will be able to raise a significant amount which can go towards their fund.
'Although only a small gesture from the club, we will double any amount raised by the auction, which we hope can make a small difference to the people of Mexico.'
West Ham host Tottenham at the London Stadium in the early kick-off on Saturday and a number of shirts have already been made available, with Hernandez's No 17 jersey currently reaching a bid of £2,501.
