Tottenham striker Harry Kane is building a special room for his vast number of goalscoring trophies... and he'll ask Wayne Rooney for tips

  • Harry Kane is in the middle of yet another purple patch of goalscoring form
  • The Tottenham striker has a remarkable 11 goals in his past seven matches
  • He doesn't have space at home for his hat-trick balls and memorabilia
  • So he's going to take a leaf out of Wayne Rooney's book an build a room for them

Harry Kane admits there might be one problem with his prolific return to form - he is not sure what to do with the growing collection of hat-trick balls, Golden Boots and other assorted trinkets of success.

Wayne Rooney created a special room, a glittering mini-museum inside his own house, where he could display a bounty of swapped-shirts, medals and England caps.

'I've not seen it,' said Kane. 'I'll text him and ask him about it. At the moment they're all at home, just in bags, in the cupboards, waiting to be put up.

'I'm hoping to build a room for them, the trophies and the balls. It isn't built yet but hopefully it will be soon.'

At this rate, the Spurs striker might have to revise the dimensions and make it larger.

After another barren August, goals have erupted and three in the Champions League against APOEL in Nicosia took his September tally to 11 in seven games for club and country.

Records keep falling and the tributes keep flowing.

Glenn Hoddle, on BT Sport, claimed he could go on to become Tottenham's 'greatest goalscorer' which is some accolade to be compared favourably to Jimmy Greaves, the scorer of 266 goals in 379 games for the club.

In modern terms, Kane's goals have launched him into the tier of strikers aspiring to reach the standards set by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane and Ronaldo are set to go head-to-head in the Champions League, with Spurs preparing for a double-header against Real Madrid in October.

'I've never met him but I'm a fan, of course,' said 24-year-old Kane. 'I'm a fan of great footballers and he's one of the best, especially of my generation.

'I want to test myself against the best and Real Madrid have been the best in the last few years, without a doubt. They have one of the best defences with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and players like that.

'I'm looking forward to it. I've never been to the Bernabeu, it's going to be exciting and I want to put in a performance like I have been recently.

'Hopefully we can win and maybe score more goals than him.

'It will probably come down again to who is more clinical in the final third. Hopefully that can be us.

'We feel we can beat anyone on our day. We're confident, definitely. We're going there to win.'

After crashing out of the Champions League at the group stage last year, Spurs have offered signs of improvement with six goals and six points from fixtures against Borussia Dortmund, at Wembley, and APOEL, in Cyprus.

Kane, who missed three of the six group games last season, already has five in two this term and is making the step up in class look easy.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino described him as a 'killer' after the goals in Nicosia, the ninth hat-trick of his career.

'It's not easy but I'm, confident and feeling good,' said Kane. 'I took my chances well and I'm happy. I was pleased with my finishing. That's part of being more mature.

'The more I play, the more I get a sense of what defenders will do at certain times. The second goal, for example, going back across through the legs, little things like that. As you get older and wiser, things come naturally.

'I said at the start of the campaign I wanted to prove myself on the big stage against the big teams.

'APOEL aren't one of the big teams in the Champions League but it's still a tough place to come and so it's a great victory and I'm very proud to get my first Champions League hat-trick.'

Tottenham's next game is at Huddersfield on Saturday in the Premier League.

HARRY KANE'S 2017 HAT-TRICKS

January 14: Tottenham 4 West Brom 0, Premier League

Kane returned to action with a bang after missing the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa following the birth of his first child, sweeping home Christian Eriksen's 12th-minute cross and then applying the finishing touch to Kyle Walker's ball in 13 minutes from time. There was still time to complete his hat-trick, which he did five minutes later after exchanging passes with Dele Alli.

February 19: Fulham 0 Tottenham 3, FA Cup fifth round

It took Kane just 16 minutes to find the back of the net for the first time at Craven Cottage with Eriksen once again providing the ammunition, and the second six minutes after the restart was almost a carbon copy. It was Alli who took over the role of provider with 17 minutes remaining, sliding in the striker to beat goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli once again.

February 26: Tottenham 4 Stoke 0, Premier League

Kane put Stoke to the sword in emphatic style a week later as he plundered his third treble of the calendar year inside 23 first-half minutes. His 14th-minute opener, an expert finish from Alli's cross, was his 100th goal at club level and took him past the 20-mark for the third successive season. A left-foot finish from Eriksen's 32nd-minute corner set the stage for his third five minutes later, which came courtesy of a fortuitous deflection off Peter Crouch.

May 18: Leicester 1 Tottenham 6, Premier League

Kane helped himself to four goals at the King Power Stadium as he and Romelu Lukaku found themselves engaged in a tooth and nail battle for the Premier League's golden boot. Son Heung-min - who scored twice himself - teed-up the forward from close range after 25 minutes and having claimed a second with a 63rd-minute header, he struck twice from distance as time ran down to complete his haul.

May 21, Hull 1 Tottenham 7, Premier League

A second hat-trick in four days provided the backbone for a final-day rout of relegated Hull. Kane opened his personal account when he blasted home from Eriksen's 11th-minute pass and doubled it from Kieran Trippier's cross two minutes later before Alli set up his third 18 minutes from time.

September 26: Apoel Nicosia 0 Tottenham 3, Champions League

Kane's first Champions League hat-trick and his ninth in a Spurs shirt came inside 28 minutes either side of half-time in Nicosia. He set the ball rolling after racing through on to defender Toby Alderweireld's defence-splitting 39th-minute ball and then killed off Apoel by converting Moussa Sissoko's 62nd-minute cut-back before heading home Trippier's cross five minutes later.
