Angel Gomes and Aidan Barlow helped Manchester United Under 19s to a 2-1 win over their CSKA Moscow counterparts.

The young Red Devils maintained their 100 percent win record in the UEFA Youth League following their 4-3 opening-round win over Basle.

United set the pace early — scoring both goals in the first half — as their Russian opposition failed to keep up with the visitors.

Barlow was the man to break the deadlock after just eight minutes had been played, when Indy Boonen found him inside the box.

Barlow managed to control the ball with his chest before calmly slotting past Nikolai Zirikov in the CSKA goal.

But it was Gomes with the pick of the strikes for the visitors. The 17-year-old, who was given his senior bow by Jose Mourinho in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the end of last season, stepped up for a free kick after Joshua Bohui was adjudged to have been fouled.

The United prodigy then dispatched the free kick into the bottom right-hand corner to double the lead before the break.

The hosts managed to claim one back, however, when CSKA substitute Dmitrii Merenchukov tucked home from close range as the clock ticked over to 90 minutes.

United will hope the result is a pre-cursor for the senior side, who will take the field at VEB Arena on Wednesday evening, hoping to maintain their own win record after defeating their Swiss counterparts 3-0 a fortnight ago.
