Everton 2-2 Apollon Limassol, Europa League RESULT: Visitors down to 10 men rescue point at Goodison Park

Everton threw away two points on Thursday night as they were held to a draw despite Apollon Limassol having gone down to 10 men.

The Toffees switched off late in the game as Apollon Limassol right back Hector Yuste scored from close range to level the scores after Roberge had been sent off for appearing to kick out at Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Nikola Vlasic had put the home side in front in the second half after Wayne Rooney had equalised following Adrian's opener.

FULL TIME: EVERTON 2-2 APOLLON LIMASSOL

Ronald Koeman's side are booed off the pitch by a section of Everton supporters. A poor finish by Everton. They switched off when it really mattered. They lost concentration when their opponents went down to 10 men. Very, very poor.

21:54

90+3min: Corner for Everton. One minute remains. Sigurdsson plays it in, Vale punches and the ball is cleared. Kenny plays the ball back into the Apollon Limassol box and Vale claims.

21:53
Three minutes added time
21:52

90min: Massive chance for Everton. The ball came across to Calvert-Lewin in the Everton six-yard box but his tame effort is saved by Vale and eventually cleared. Some finish we're having here. Both sides going full pelt for the win.

21:50
GOAL: Yuste 88min (Everton 2-2 Apollon Limassol)

It's the goal the Everton supporters really weren't expecting. You'd be hard pressed to find any Apollon Limassol fans who would even have dreamed it. From a free-kick, which Davy Klassen gave away, Yuste, the right back, glances his header past Jordan Pickford.

21:49

84min: Ashley Williams again gives the ball away in a dangerous area. Apollon Limassol have a free-kick to the right of the penalty area. It's wasted.

Seconds later and there appears to be a little clash between both sets of players. Roberge kicks out at Calvert-Lewin. The former Stoke player rightly received his marching orders.

21:42

81min: Rooney tries a shot from range but it's easily saved by Vale in the Apollon Limassol goal. It was a tame effort. May as well fast-forward to the end of this one.

Nikola Vlasic celebrates scoring Everton's second goal
21:39

78min: Calvert-Lewin shoots over Vale's crossbar. Lacked composure there and possibly should have extended Everton's lead. Instead he got to the edge of the Apollon Limassol box and blazed his right-footed effort over.

21:37

75min: Everton defending with ease and countering well against Apollon Limassol. Rooney draws the foul after skipping past Hector Yuste. Referee Tamas Bognar doesn't hesitate to issue a yellow card.

21:32

67min: Two changes for Everton. Calvert-Lewin comes on for Sandro Ramirez while Klaassen gets a chance in place of Davies.

21:27
GOAL: Vlasic 66min (Everton 2-1 Apollon Limassol)

The second-half substitute makes the difference when this game really needed it. He was put through by Sigurdsson and slots calmly past goalkeeper Vale. Everton will surely push on now and provide the home supporters with something to get excited about.

21:23

62min: Half an hour to play and this game desperately needs something key happening. The lack of atmosphere must be noticeable to the players and they are playing as though this is a match behind closed doors. So very flat.

21:22

60min: Jakolis comes off for Schembri as Apollon Limassol go for a different approach going forward.

21:20

57min: Apollon Limassol go forward yet again but overplay the ball and Everton regain possession. Tom Davies is given a talking to by the referee for tugging on the shirt of Roberge.

21:16

54min: Everton need to be careful. They're pushing up more now particularly on the wings and leaving gaps on the overlap. Mason Holgate goes down under the challenge of Maglica. This has been very scrappy so far during this second half.

21:11

48min: Second half has started rather flatly. No real inspiration for the fans to feed off. Schneiderlin seems to have been told to try and get a little further forward to support the attack.

And back underway.

HT: Everton 1-1 Apollon Limassol

The only noise being made at Goodison Park as the players go in at half-time is coming from the away fans. Not a particularly exciting first half by Everton. Underwhelming.

20:48

42min: Everton free-kick outside of the Apollon Limassol penalty area. Sigurdsson takes but Vale is able to punch clear.

20:47

40min: This has certainly lacked excitement and chances. Tom Davies continues to be a creative spark for Everton. He's just watched a wonderful swerving effort of his from range fly towards the top left of the Apollon Limassol goal. Vale produces a good save to deny him.

20:42
He could do with another one tonight too...
20:41

34min: The visitors from Cyprus are doing well to stretch Everton's defence. They're very patient going forward and like to play down the right flank. Jakolis appears to be their main threat on the right side. Baines, for now, has marked him well.

20:36

29min: Everton's defence seems to have tightened up considerably since Apollon Limassol's opener. Holgate and Kenny both closing down their opposite numbers well.

Seconds later and Rooney, who is still in a little pain, bends his shot towards the far post but his effort goes wide.

20:32

25min: Rooney appears to have damaged his left wrist. He went up for an overhead kick earlier in the game and did land awkwardly on it. He looks ok to continue for now. Bandaged up and ready to go.

20:29
GOAL: Rooney 21min (Everton 1-1 Apollon Limassol)

Another terrible pass. Another costly error. For the visitors this time. Yuste was the one who attempted to play the ball back to his goalkeeper only to completely mishit his pass. Rooney who was alert and in a good position ran in and beat Vale to the ball before passing into an open Apollon Limassol goal. A lovely invitation back into this contest for Everton.

20:25

18min: Everton very flat this evening. Lack of urgency going forward is frustrating the home fans. Slow build-up not a problem but when your side is down courtesy of a sloppy goal it's easy to sympathise with the Everton faithful.

20:18
GOAL: (Adrian 13min) Everton 0-1 Apollon Limassol

Oh dear, oh dear Ashley Williams. He went to clear the ball from just inside the Everton penalty area but scuffs his clearance. It falls to Maglica who crosses to Adrian who puts past Pickford at the second attempt. So very poor by Everton.

Adrian Sardinero puts Apollon Limassol ahead
20:17

11min: Everton with a slight chance. Pickford launches the ball from just outside the Everton penalty area and Rooney - all the way down the other end - can't quite control the ball as it goes through to Vale.

20:15
JOE BERNSTEIN AT GOODISON PARK

In their starting line-up, Apollon Limassol have a No77 (Sardinero), 88 (Vasiliou), 92 (Jakolis), 95 (Alef) and 99 (Maglica). Only in the Europa..

20:14

7min: Everton free-kick. Tom Davies is fouled and Sigurdsson will have the chance to deliver a cross. He does from about 30 yards but Apollon Limassol goalkeeper Vale claims easily.

20:10

4min: Worth commenting how quiet the Everton faithful are tonight. You get the impression they're waiting for this season to receive the boost it needs. A convincing win tonight would help matters.

20:09

3min: Steady start to this one. Everton happy to play the ball across the centre of midfield. Sandro, the man who starts up top for Everton tonight, will want to make a good impression following his move. He will need central midfield, among other areas of the pitch, to supply good service tonight.

Where Everton stand

Just a little reminder that Everton are currently bottom of their Europa League group after their 3-0 reverse against Atalanta in the opening game. with Lyon hosting Atalanta at the same time as tonight's game.

Playing the group's supposed whipping boys, Everton need three points to maintain a reasonable chance of qualification.

However, Apollon Limassol proved to be no pushovers as they held Lyon to a draw in their opening game.
